How is the Abhyanga performed?
This or any other ayurvedic massage is traditionally performed in the morning hours followed by a warm bath or shower.
Apply the warm oil gently to the entire body. Wait for about four to five minutes and let it get absorbed and then start massaging the entire body using your fingers and palm. Sensitive areas such as the abdomen or the heart need light pressuring. Spend some more time pampering your fingertips, palms and the bottom of your feet with extra oil.
For best results, use circular motions over areas of your head or joints and straight strokes on your arms and legs.
Just relax for 10 to 15 minutes after you are done to allow oil to deepen its penetration. And let the virtue of oil and the massage produce its magic.
Dab the excess oil off and follow with a relaxing warm bath. Make sure to do this massage at least three or four times a week if not daily. It’s really worth it!
