When your baby is in the womb, it develops soft hair on its skin which is known as lanugo. This prenatal hair provides warmth and maintains skin moisture. In most cases, the hair falls off in the later stages of pregnancy, or around four months after delivery. If you happen to find that your infant still has this after three or four months, you might want to initiate the shedding process using some techniques. While it can be tempting to grab a baby hair removal cream from the pharmacist, Ayurveda says that it’s wise to use organic ingredients rather than chemicals. So, here are some tips on how to remove newborn body hair – the natural way.

These remedies consist of easy massages that use safe, simple ingredients from your kitchen. They are painless as well as free from side effects. Keep reading…

How to Remove Newborn Body Hair – Naturally

1. Gently Rub Skin with Wheat and Gram Flour

Make a soft, smooth ball of dough using wheat and gram flour. Add 2 tablespoons of wheat flour and 1 tablespoon of gram flour. Adding water, mould the mixture into a ball. And then, just rub this ball on the body of your baby. Remember to be as soft as you can – you want this to be a comfortable experience for the baby. As you rub the ball, you will see the lanugo or hair come off from your baby and get attached to the dough ball.

2. Use Olive Oil to Massage Baby’s Skin

Olive oil is a commonly used ingredient to massage little ones. It makes their skin smooth and supple. Dip your fingertips in some olive oil and gently run your hands on your baby’s body. Put only little pressure. Doing this result in the hair simply falling off from the roots of your baby’s skin. It can also be quite a relaxing session for your baby and offer you some time to bond. You can do this twice a day.

3. Massage Skin with Milk, Lentils, and Almond

This method best suits babies who have fully formed skin – do not try this on babies who are still in the highly tender stages. Start by soaking the lentils for one night. The next morning, mix in some almonds and crush it, adding milk. Work the mixture until it reaches the consistency of a paste. Now, take the paste and very gently rub it on the skin of your little one. While the lentils and almonds will take off the hair, the milk offers the needed moisture for the baby’s skin. You can do this massage one time a day.

4. Massage Skin with Milk, Turmeric and Gram Flour

In the last easy massage technique, you would add a tablespoon of turmeric, and another tablespoon of gram flour. Then adding milk into the combination, mix it into a thick paste. Apply this paste on your fingers and gently rub it on your baby’s body. After the massage, wet a cloth in warm water and run it on your baby’s skin. Remember to do this in the opposite direction of the hair growth. The result is that the hair will easily come off and disappear.

The Closing Note

While trying to select the method of how to remove newborn body hair, feel free to try more than one. You can take note of how your baby responds to each massage, and then stick to the one that feels best for you and your little one. However, if your baby still hair after six months, visit a doctor.
