  • 6 Benefits Of Peanuts
  • 1. Make You Feel Happier
  • 2. Help Shed Extra Pounds
  • 3. Packed With Antioxidants
  • 4. Boost Biotin Levels
  • 5. Supply You With Copper
  • 6. Improve Heart Health

Let’s start with a fun fact: peanuts are not a nut, but a legume! Though notorious for triggering allergic reactions in people across the globe, peanuts are a true superfood since they pack quite a nutrient punch. In Ayurveda, peanuts are considered too heavy for Vata types but are great for the Kapha constitution. Here are 6 wonderful benefits of peanuts.

6 Benefits Of Peanuts

1. Make You Feel Happier

If you tend to feel depressed easily, chances are that adding peanuts to your daily diet can strengthen your efforts to fight depression. That’s because peanuts supply your body with tryptophan, an amino acid that helps boost the levels of serotonin (a hormone that creates the sensation of happiness in the body). So, peanuts have depression fighting ability. Another food found to ease depression is bananas.

2. Help Shed Extra Pounds

Next on the health benefits of peanuts list is weight loss. These legumes pack a whole lot of fibre and protein, which means that when you eat them, you’re likely to feel full sooner and for longer durations of time. In other words, peanuts delay your craving for the next meal. All while supplying you with a good amount of nutrition. Who knew that shedding extra weight could be as easy as sacking on a handful of yummy peanuts?

3. Packed With Antioxidants

Ayurveda always encourages eating a diet rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants fight free radicals, boost immunity, and improve skin health among other benefits. They can even play a significant role in keeping cancers away. Peanuts contain plenty of antioxidants like vitamin C, vitamin E, and polyphenols. They therefore offer protection against premature ageing and disease.

4. Boost Biotin Levels

Biotin is among the B vitamins that plays an important role in hair health, energy production, and metabolism. Peanuts are one of the richest sources of this nutrient; just ¼ cup provides you with around 88% of the daily requirement! So, go ahead and meet your biotin needs with delicious peanuts. Another rich source of biotin is avocado.

5. Supply You With Copper

Perhaps lesser known among the peanuts benefits is increased copper levels in the body. Ayurvedic experts often advise eating peanuts to restore lost copper levels since just ¼ cup of peanuts contains around 45% of the daily recommended intake. By supplying you with this mineral, peanuts helps maintain higher energy levels, a well functioning nervous system and better cardiovascular health.

6. Improve Heart Health

Next on the list of peanut benefits is better cardiovascular health. Plenty of researchers have looked into the relationship between peanuts and cholesterol levels. They’ve found that this superfood can lower cholesterol, improves the functioning of the arteries, as well as boosts blood circulation. Thanks to the high content of monounsaturated fats in peanuts. Simply munch on a handful for a stronger heart.

A Word Of Caution!

There are plenty of thing that make peanuts good for health, as we’ve seen. But please note that there can be side effects. Being a legume, peanuts can cause gas and aggravate Vata. So, eat them in moderation. They are also an allergy triggering food. If you notice symptoms of an allergy like swelling and breathing difficulty, contact your doctor.
