  • 2. Ashwagandha (Withania Somnifera)

  • 4. Amalaki (Emblica Officinalis)
  • 5. Shilajit (Mineral Wax)

Ayurveda is among the world’s most ancient scientific systems of health. It makes use of many techniques to heal the body and boost wellness. One of the most popular treatments in Ayurveda is called rasayana therapy. The word rasayana means rejuvenation. There are many Ayurvedic rasayana herbs that promote strength, better brain power, vitality, mental calmness, and youthfulness. They also help get rid of toxins from the body. So, these herbs can significantly improve the quality of life.

The 5 Most Powerful Ayurvedic Rasayana Herbs

1. Triphala

As the name suggests, triphala is a combination of three fruits. ‘Tri’ means three, and ‘phala’ means fruit. This ancient Ayurvedic formulation balances all the three doshas, namely Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. The three fruits it contains are amalaki, haritaki and bibhitaki. It helps restore perfect digestive health, reduces inflammation, detoxifies the body, and also improves vision among many other benefits. Here are some more uses of triphala in Ayurveda.

2. Ashwagandha (Withania Somnifera)

Ashwagandha is one of the most popular Ayurvedic herbs for longevity and rejuvenation. Its Indian name implies that it can give you the strength of a horse. This herb is best for Vata types, but can also balance Kapha. Warm milk offsets the herb’s heating qualities, making it also fit for those with mild Pitta aggravation. Ashwagandha boosts strength, improve sexual stamina, and improves immunity. It’s great for those with anxiety, insomnia, and mild depression and works wonders with kids. Read more about Ashwagandha for kids.

3. Shatavari (Asparagus Racemosus)

Next on the list of Ayurvedic rasayana herbs is shatavari, a wonderful rejuvenator for women in all stages of life – especially for Vata and Pitta types. Shatavari helps bring about hormonal balance in women, soothes menopause symptoms, improves reproductive health, and can treat menstrual disorders. It also works as an Ayurvedic aphrodisiac. This herb is also good for men – it improves male reproductive health, has antioxidant effects, and boosts strength. Shatavari is also great for the digsetive system. Those with excess Kapha should exercise caution with this herb, since it can be aggravating when used in unsuitable amounts.

4. Amalaki (Emblica Officinalis)

Amalaki also goes by the name of Indian gooseberry. Since this Rasayana food has cooling properties, it’s best for Pitta types – although it can balance all three doshas. It boosts immunity, improves liver health, cleanses the digestive system, maintains healthy vision, and also improves brain power. Being an excellent detoxifier, amalaki is one of the top Ayurvedic rasayanas for skin health.

5. Shilajit (Mineral Wax)

Last up is Shilajit, also called mineral wax in English. Though not technically a herb, shilajit is one of the most powerful Ayurvedic rasayanas. Found in the Himalayas, shilajit suits Kapha types best. It has potent antioxidant properties, making it a great natural remedy for premature ageing. It purifies the blood, supports healthy immunity, and also has aphrodisiac effects. This substance is great for brain power too.

A Word Of Caution:

In Ayurveda, herbs can be of great use, but only when they suit the constitution of the person taking them. That’s because different herbs have different properties that can either aggravate or balance specific doshas and then they can potentially do more harm than good. So before using anything to treat yourself, always consult your doctor.
