Head massages feel divine. But, do you know, other than calming the mind, a relaxing head massage has several other health benefits too? You must have heard how Ayurveda recommends Abhyanga since it’s soothing as well as healing. Similarly, a daily head massage benefits to balance your doshas, improve hair health and do so much more. But first, let’s tell you …

Head Massage Steps

  • Comfortably sit in a quiet place and play some soft music.
  • Dip your fingers in the oil and apply evenly. You can use a mix of almond oil, coconut oil, and sesame oil or use them individually.
  • Lightly massage your head in a circular motion.
  • Move up from the neck, targetting the center, going towards the forehead and back.
  • Also, smoothly rub on the sides.
  • Do it for 5-10 minutes.
  • Wash your hair after an hour with a herbal shampoo.

Head Massage Benefits

1. It Increases Blood Circulation.

Regularly performing an Ayurvedic head massage increases blood circulation. This oxygenates the brain cells leading to better cognitive functioning. So, for that added benefit, use tea tree essential oil with a carrier oil.

2. It Nourishes The Scalp.

A daily massage with herbal oils proves beneficial. These moisturize the scalp and get rid of dandruff. You can add lavender essential oil in coconut oil for a better impact.

3. A Relaxing Head Massage Releases Stress.

A gentle head massage at the end of a tiring day feels relieving. It stimulates the brain cells and releases happy hormones that are responsible for positive emotions. Bhringraj oil is a great choice for the same.

4. It Eases Neck Muscles.

Facial and neck muscles are joint with the scalp. Therefore, an Ayurvedic head massage relaxes the tensed muscles and also removes stress from the face. Mix 2-3 drops of rosemary essential oil in a carrier oil of your choice and then massage.

5. A Daily Massage Stimulates Hair Follicles.

A relaxing head massage benefits your hair health in multiple ways. It rejuvenates the hair follicles to result in stronger and longer hair. They grow quicker with a daily massage. Thus, sesame oil works best for adding the needed shine and thickness.

6. It Treats Sleeplessness.

Sleeplessness and insomnia are common problems today. These conditions deteriorate your overall well-being and affect the daily routine. However, an Ayurvedic head massage induces sleep and reduces everyday stress. So, mix the aromatic rose essential oil in a carrier oil for a sound sleep.

7. It Prevents Sun-Related Damage.

A daily Ayurvedic head massage benefits by creating a layer of protection over your hair. This way, the harmful rays of the Sun do not cast a direct exposure. Olive oil is beneficial for the same. You can also add some fresh aloe vera gel and apply it to the lengths of your hair.
