How To Stop Yawning So Much? Try These 5 Ways!

Yawning is one of those natural urges that we shouldn’t suppress as it’s the best way to instantly release your stress and revive lost concentration. But, in case you are yawning a little too much, it’s time to pay attention to your health. Are you wondering what causes excessive yawning? Why you aren’t able to sleep with ease and how to stop yawning so much? Read on, here are some simple and time-tested ways to stop excessive yawning.

What Causes Excessive Yawning?

There can be several reasons that involuntarily trigger the action of yawning. However, if you are yawning every 3 to 4 minutes, then there could be two major reasons:

1. Psychological Causes 

These include stress, boredom or depression that result in emotional disturbances and cause excessive yawning.

2. Physical Causes

Any physical disorders including cardiovascular issues, venous insufficiencies, electrolyte imbalance, alteration in the sleep cycle, side effects of medications or spinal cord problems can cause you to yawn excessively.

Remedies on How To Stop Yawning So Much?

1. Breathe Right.

To cure this particular issue, deep breathing exercises are always recommended. Perform pranayama for atleast 2 to 3 minutes every day. And ensure that you are sitting straight while doing the exercise. This is because when you learn to control your posture, you’ll also stop getting affected by any external factors. Breathing the correct way is important. Try taking shorter breaths and using the abdominal muscles, relax, exhale and repeat.

2. Water Isn’t Wacky! Drink It. 

One of the best excessive yawning treatments is by increasing your fluid intake. You are always advised you keep yourself hydrated with around 10-15 glasses of water in a day which actually keeps you active throughout.

3. Try Meditation.

Make space for at least a 5-minute meditation session in your hectic routine. When your mind and body stay relaxed, you’ll stop cutting your stress with caffeine. Meditation creates a free flow of thoughts which keeps you mentally present in the moment. 4. Take A Break.

Break the monotony in whatever you are doing. Life is too short to spend your time in getting bored. Do something interesting so it changes your mind and keeps you away from yawning excessively. Do something different and creative, so that you can at least get rid of the momentary yawning. Rest for a while or perhaps take a power nap!

5. Pacify Your Vata Dosha.

Vata balancing measures can be taken up as an effective excessive yawning treatment. Go for regular head massages with essential oils like that of mustard or sesame so you feel calm and sleep well. It relieves your tiredness and also improves the blood circulation.

Vata aggravation can lead to excessive yawning along with being heavy headed and experiencing numbness in your head as well as neck.
