Milk and turmeric combine to form one of today’s favourite health drinks – golden milk. Both of the main ingredients are immensely valued in Ayurveda, the ancient Indian science of wellness. Turmeric is an all-dosha balancing spice, while organic cow milk is an Ayurvedic super food. This drink is known to have a whole bunch of benefits, from boosting immunity and fighting cancer to fighting stress and stabilising moods. It’s not surprising that this drink also improves skin. Check out these 5 benefits of milk and turmeric for skin.

The Magical Benefits Of Milk And Turmeric For Skin

1. It Fights Skin Cancer.

One of the most prized turmeric benefits for skin is its ability to fight skin cancer. Studies have found that the curcumin present in this yellow spice can kill tumour cells, as well as prevent the development of melanoma and non-melanoma cancer. Researchers are studying this spice intensively, and it shows a lot of promise.

Turmeric has also been found to significantly boost the immune system, thus enabling your body to fight off disease much better. Drinking golden milk can help.

2. It Helps Clear Acne.

People have traditionally used milk and turmeric for skin affected by acne. Milk can cleanse the skin of impurities. And turmeric offers its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, as well as antioxidant benefits.

Drinking golden milk has the added benefit of cleansing the liver and purifying the blood. You could also apply golden milk onto your skin. First, wash your face with water and mild herbal soap. Then rub some turmeric milk paste onto it. You can prepare it by simply adding 5 tablespoons of turmeric powder to 2.5 tablespoons of milk. You could also add half a teaspoon of sandalwood powder to the mix. After it dries, rinse off with lukewarm water.

3. It Gets Rid Of Scars.

There are some pretty good benefits of turmeric on face scars. Both turmeric and milk have been found to lighten skin and get rid of spots as well as pigmentation. While it may take time, turmeric milk is likely to produce no side effects.

Here’s how to use it: add 5 tablespoons of turmeric powder to 2.5 tablespoons of milk. Apply it onto your face every night and wash it off with lukewarm water first thing in the morning. Also, make sure that you always apply sunscreen to avoid pigmentation. Alternatively, you can use lemon juice.

4. It Makes Skin Glow.

Last on the list of benefits of turmeric for skin is healthy glowing skin – something we’d all love to have! Turmeric, as we mentioned before, helps detoxify the system and purify blood. Drinking turmeric milk goes a long way in ensuring that your skin grows healthier. This drink has also been found to bust stress and help you sleep better. Plenty of research links good quality sleep to healthy skin. Drinking some warm golden milk before you hit the bed can do the trick.

Ayurveda Tip:

When making golden milk, add a pinch of black pepper. This increases the absorption of curcumin in your body, thus boosting the power of the drink.

If you experience any kind of irritation after applying turmeric milk onto your skin, wash it off immediately.
