Do you often get headaches? Are these aches directed towards the temples of your head? Temporal arteritis, also known as giant cell arteritis, is a disease where the temporal arteries get inflamed. Headaches, fevers, and gastrointestinal issues are some of the most common temporal arteritis symptoms. But, what causes the disease and are there any home remedies for a natural treatment? Keep reading…

What Are The Temporal Arteritis Causes?

Temporal arteritis is an autoimmune disorder. An autoimmune disorder basically refers to the immune system unknowingly attacking the body organs as well as damaging them. Some severe infections and high doses of antibiotics may also cause such a reaction. However, there are some risk factors associated with the disease like:

  • Being female
  • Being 50 years old or above
  • Menopause before age 43
  • Polymyalgia Rheumatica
  • European or Scandinavian descent
  • Family history
  • Smoking
  • Low BMI (Body Mass Index)

What Are The Temporal Arteritis Symptoms?

  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Pain in the face as well as the jaw while chewing
  • Headaches
  • Blurred vision or loss of vision
  • A cough
  • A sore throat
  • Appetite loss
  • Weight loss
  • Tongue pain
  • Pain in shoulders, arms, neck as well as the hips

Temporal Arteritis Treatment

1. Use Lavender & Peppermint Oils On Temples.

Temporal arteritis causes pain in the temples. Aromatherapy is a great way to heal headaches. And, lavender as well as peppermint oils are soothing. So, mix 5 drops of lavender and peppermint essential oils with 1 teaspoon of almond oil. Apply on the temples and massage gently.

2. Blessed Thistle Increases Appetite.

Loss of appetite becomes problematic as it decreases the consumption of nutrition. Blessed thistle improves digestion as well as secretes the bile juices for hunger. Therefore, add a 10mg of blessed thistle in a cup. Pour some water over the leaves and cover. Strain after 5 minutes and drink twice daily.

3. Basil Tea Reduces Fever & Cough.

Fever and cough are the 2 main temporal arteritis symptoms. However, basil leaves have antiviral properties to cure the same. So, boil 4-5 basil leaves in a cup of water. Steep the tea for 5 minutes and strain. Add a teaspoon of honey and drink once every day.

4. Relieve Pain With Chamomile Tea.

Giant cell arteritis causes pain as well as inflammation in the body. Chamomile is anti-inflammatory in nature and contains antioxidants to help prevent the symptoms. So, boil some chamomile herb in a cup of water. Steep for 5-10 minutes. Strain and drink daily.

5. Gargle With Licorice Root For Sore Throat.

Temporal arteritis symptoms point towards a sore throat along with pain in the face as well as jaws. Licorice roots, thus, heal all the symptoms quickly. So, add a teaspoon of licorice powder in a glass of water. Gargle twice for relief.

6. Butterbur Helps With Headaches.

Butterbur is a herb that has long been used for the treatment of headaches. The herb is also effective in curing temporal arteritis symptoms like a cough as well as fever. So, take 50mg of dried butterbur powder twice every day for better results.

7. Keep The Stomach Working With Ginger.

Giant cell arteritis can upset the stomach easily. So, ginger is an effective way to treat it. Boil a teaspoon of ginger root powder in a cup of water for 5-8 minutes. Strain and drink twice daily.
