The beauty of Ayurveda is how it provides us with such uncomplicated solutions to just any problem that hampers the well being of an individual. So, be it something critical or simply a jet lag, Ayurveda doesn’t let your body disrupt its working. So, here’s how to get over a jet lag with these simple and natural remedies!

7 Travel Tips On How To Get Over A Jet Lag

1. Soak Up The Sun.

Upon reaching your destination, soak up some sunlight for at least 20 minutes as it helps you revive and reset your body’s clock. This will also balance your vata and keep the brain cells active.

2. Get Your Nutrition Right.

Air travels are sure to deplete your energy levels. So, it’s important for you to supply your body with essential nutrients. Vitamin A can be gained from orange and yellow colored fruits and veggies. Vitamin C is in all the leafy greens. Whereas, some amount of vitamin E is in most food. The easiest way to get some vitamin E is to simply grab a handful of almonds.

3. Meditate.

Make sure you meditate at least for 10 minutes before boarding the flight, while on the plane and after you land. Keep your eyes closed gently, sit upright, observe silence and not any other thoughts to help your body relax from all the tensions. Read more about the benefits of Meditation.

4. Take Triphala.

Do not leave your house without having Triphala. It’s a natural home remedy for jet lag and is much more than just a digestive tonic. How to get over a jet lag with Triphala? Add half a teaspoon of Triphala powder to a cup of warm water, let it steep for about 10 minutes and drink it before leaving your home to avoid the symptoms of a jet lag.

5. Drink Almond Milk.

Drink some almond milk as it is nourishing and helps balance your anxieties, along with vata related issues. Blend some soaked almonds and mix them in a cup of warm milk along with some cardamom, honey, and saffron.

6. Get A Massage.

Massaging your body – not just after you reach your destination but even before leaving – is one of the best tips to get over a jet lag. Use essential oils for an aromatic and therapeutic effect. Massage your scalp, body, and feet with some warm sesame oil as it is amongst the guaranteed ways to cure jet lag.

7. What More To Eat?

Choose not to eat something that’s too heavy on your stomach. Instead, have a hot soup, eat veggies with lentils and garlic, ghee and khichdi or some cooked apples. Have grounding foods!

A Few More Tips…

  • When traveling to newer time zones, try to reset your watch and adapt to activities of that particular time.
  • If possible, resist the urge to take long naps. A 20-minute power nap can, however, help you refresh while on board.
  • Take a bath the moment you reach your destination. Start with a cool bath and end your shower with warm water.
  • Gently massage your earlobes in a circular motions so that there’s no pressure developed and you also avoid a nosebleed.
