Mononucleosis is a viral infection. Also known as mono or kissing disease, its symptoms show up four to six weeks after exposure. The infection stays for a few weeks and then usually wears off. Children of a younger age are more prone to it as compared to adults. The symptoms are mild, but in some cases, they may get severe. Usually, the body builds antibodies so that mono disease does not attack again. However, if the virus belongs to the herpesvirus family, it stays dormant and inactive in the body. Home remedies for the infectious mononucleosis are a sure-shot treatment without leaving any side effects.

What Causes Infectious Mononucleosis?

Kissing disease or mono disease is an infection of the Epstein-Barr virus that spreads through saliva. Kissing is the most common way of spreading, hence the name. Sharing utensils, straws, and food also spreads the EB virus – which eventually moves through body fluids like mucus, semen, vaginal fluids, and blood.

What Are The Infectious Mononucleosis Symptoms?

  • A sore throat
  • Swollen glands in the throat
  • Enlarged tonsils
  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Rashes
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Jaundice (severe cases)

Infectious Mononucleosis Treatment

1. Coconut Oil Prevents The Mononucleosis Rash.

The mononucleosis rash appears on the body due to the mono virus. But coconut oil has antibacterial properties to gradually destroy the infection. So, you can directly apply the oil onto your rashes twice a day to get rid of the discomforts.

2. Garlic Has Antiviral Properties.

Garlic is antiviral as well as anti-inflammatory in nature to help lower the mononucleosis symptoms like nausea and abdominal pain. So, crush 2-3 cloves of garlic and swallow them each morning with a glass of water. This will combat the side effects of the mono virus.

3. Ginseng Roots Cure Fever.

Ginseng, burdock as well as goldenseal roots have healing properties. So, you can boil one teaspoon of these roots with cayenne pepper in two cups of water. Reduce the water to half the quantity and then strain. Drink once daily to cure mono disease.

4. Bergamot Oil Baths Are Beneficial.

Bergamot oil helps in effectively treating the mononucleosis symptoms. So, take a lukewarm water bath with a few drops of bergamot oil. This overcomes the mononucleosis rash. Other essential oils like eucalyptus oil or lavender oil also work fine.

5. Salt Water Gargling Treats The Throat.

Major mononucleosis symptoms include a sore throat as well as swollen neck glands. Gargling with salt in warm water will help reduce the swelling. So, practice it twice every day.
