A pleasant day is a rare thing when you’ve got a clogged nose. Because a stuffy nose is almost always runny, your body feels weak, head hurts, and you sneeze every other minute! If your nasal congestion is an indication of something serious like a ear infection or sinusitis, you’d better see your doctor. But if you’ve only got a common cold or the flu, you can quite easily clear off the congestion with these home remedies for stuffy nose.

Top Ayurvedic Home Remedies for Stuffy Nose

1. Breathe Steam.

Steam is the best nasal decongestant; people have used this method for hundreds of years. Steam inhalation opens up the sinuses and helps your body drain out the phlegm. It’s delightfully easy to do and instantly healing.

Bring a quart of water to a boil and add 1-2 drops of essential oils like eucalyptus, mint, thyme or lemon. Then place a towel over your head and the water under your face. In 15 minutes, you should feel better.

2. Drink LOTS of Warm Water.

Perhaps the most overlooked among the home remedies for stuffy nose. Warm water is crucial for sinus congestion relief. It keeps mucous from thickening, opens up the sinuses and soothes headaches too. Moreover, your body tends to get dehydrated when you’re sick. So have as much herbal tea as you like. Or if you’re too tired to make any tea, simply warm up some water and sip on it – it’s just as effective.

3. Smell Eucalyptus Oil.

This Ayurvedic herb is one of the most effective home remedies for stuffy nose. You’d find it on the ingredient lists of many modern decongestant products. But using just eucalyptus essential oil will bring you best results.

Just pour 2-3 drops of eucalyptus oil on a cloth and keep sniffing it during the day. And before you go to bed, pour the same amount on a fresh piece of cloth and keep it next to your nose. You’ll feel the difference in the morning. Be sure to keep changing the cloth everyday.

4. Drink Honey and Cinnamon Tea

Honey and cinnamon make a mighty Ayurvedic medicine for congestion. Together, they have antibacterial, antiviral, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. This tea is immediately soothing to the itchy, irritated throat and provides relief from headaches. It also gives yours, or your child’s body a much-needed immunity boost.

All you have to do is: add 1 teaspoon of honey and 1/4th teaspoon of cinnamon to a cup of hot water. Mix properly and drink it thrice a day.

5. Eat Garlic and Ginger.

Ginger and garlic are full of healing properties. When combined, you’ve got a pretty powerful remedy for infections, inflammation and chest congestion.

We hope you’re having delicious hot soups while you’re sick – simply add ginger and garlic to them. This will boost the congestion-relieving qualities of your hot soup. You can also make a power tea by adding ginger, garlic, honey and lemon to boiling water. Let it brew for a few minutes and then sip on it.

However, don’t over-eat ginger since it can have these side effects.

6. Drink Apple Cider Vinegar.

Last on our list of home remedies for nasal congestion is apple cider vinegar. Probably not the best tasting remedy, but it works rather well.  Apple cider vinegar reduces the thickness of mucous which makes it easier to flow out of your body. And it fights bacteria too.

Here’s what to do: add 2 teaspoons of it to 1 glass of warm water.
