A frequently occurring viral infection during summer and autumn, hand foot and mouth disease affects mostly children. It’s characterised by rashes on the hands, feet, and in the mouth, as well as the legs, buttocks, and genitals. Though these rashes often cause pain, this disease generally lasts only for about a week. It’s therefore not typically harmful – but it spreads easily through sources like saliva and contaminated objects. It can make kids rather uncomfortable with pain, sore throats, and overall weakness. So, you might want to try some home remedies for hand foot and mouth disease in children to ease the symptoms and promote smooth healing.

Home Remedies for Hand Foot and Mouth Disease in Children

    Neem and Asafoetida

If you can get your little one to eat this remedy, it’d be great since it’s highly effective in healing the disease. Grind 4-5 Neem leaves into a smooth cream. Fry 100 mg asafoetida in a bit of ghee, and then add it to the Neem. Sweeten it with a wee bit of honey. Blend well and feed it to your child. First, please check with your doctor if it’s safe for your kid.

    Garlic

Garlic is a potent herb that has long been used as a remedy to fight of infection, since it’s packed with antibacterial, antiviral and immunity boosting properties. It’s one of the most effective home remedies for hand foot and mouth disease in children. Make some delicious soup with your kid’s favourite vegetable and simply add a couple of crushed garlic cloves to it. It will accelerate the healing process.

    Peppermint Tea

Peppermint is an Ayurvedic herb that studies have found to have powerful anti-viral properties. So you can make some mild peppermint tea for your young one. It will not only help have a quicker and smoother recovery, but also relax your child’s muscles and ease the discomfort. You can sweeten it with a bit of honey. You can also dilute a few drops of peppermint oil with water and let your child inhale the relaxing fragrance – but use very little or it could be dangerous.

    Virgin Coconut Oil

A great herbal remedy to relieve rashes. Research confirms that virgin coconut oil can disinfect excellently. It also reduces inflammation in the body. Dilute it with water and apply it onto your little one’s sores and blisters – it’s mild, moisturising, and wonderfully soothing for the skin. You could also pour a few drops into your kid’s bathtub.

    Salt Water Gargle

A sore throat can really make hand food and mouth disease hard for children since it adds more discomfort and also makes it harder to swallow food. You’d definitely want to deal with it since this disease tends to already reduce appetite. A simple gargle with lukewarm salt water – first in the morning, at night, as well as 1-2 times through the day – can soothe your child’s throat, enabling him or her to eat well and sleep better too.

    A Few More Tips…

    • Keep your child from other kids to avoid further spreading of the disease.
    • Make sure that you regularly disinfect the things in your home.
    • If you use a bar soap, switch to liquid soap for the time being.
    • Have your little one wash his or her hands thoroughly and frequently.
    • Don’t force feed your child; lack of appetite is common.
    • Keep a watch on his or her fever.
    • After recovery, boost your child’s immune system naturally.
    • Finally, give it time! But if it persists after a week, see a doctor.
