1. Turmeric

You saw that coming, right? Turmeric milk has risen to popularity as a potent immune boosting drink. Studies confirm that this yellow herb has anti-fungal, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties. Moreover, it promotes better sleep – something that’s crucial for your immune system to function well. Turmeric in Ayurveda is considered a power food since it balances all three doshas.

2. Cayenne Pepper

Next up, red hot cayenne pepper. This spice is packed with antioxidants that strengthen your body against viruses. It works wonderfully to decongest the chest and relieve cold symptoms like headache. It provides the body with comforting warmth when you need it. Cayenne pepper also relieves pain. But use very little of it, especially if you cannot handle too much heat!

3. Clove

Clove is one of the best antiviral herbs. It contains a heavily researched substance called ‘eugenol’. Eugenol has been found to boost your body’s ability to fight off a variety of bacteria and viruses. Cloves lower inflammation as well as supply your body with antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. When combined with other oils like menthol, clove oil is said to relieve pain too.

4. Thyme

Thyme has plenty of vitamin C, one of the most important vitamins for strong immunity. It helps your body produce more illness-fighting white blood cells, and promotes cell repairing too. Thyme has antimicrobial properties that protect you from a range of infections. This herb also reduces stress, a common contributing factor to weak immunity. What’s more, it helps the body get rid of excess phlegm, thus speeding up healing.

5. Oregano

Next on our list of immune boosting herbs is the fragrant oregano. Oregano is loaded with immunity enhancing antioxidants. In fact, it is thought to have higher antioxidant properties than fruits like apples. Its oil has been used for a long time to treat bacterial and fungal infections – especially on nails, the skin, and in the respiratory system. Sprinkle it over your food while cooking for a strength boost.

6. Ginger

A widely used Ayurvedic spice, ginger is great for immunity. Numerous studies have found that this herb fights off bacteria and fungus, improves digestion, soothes symptoms such as headache and nausea, as well as reduces inflammation. If you feel a cold coming on, sipping on ginger tea is a great way to give your immune system a much-needed boost to fight off the infection.
