  • 6. Papaya

Nearly all of us land up with an upset stomach once in a while. It most commonly results from consuming something wrong like a greasy leftover pizza, or drinking too many cups of coffee. You could also have indigestion because of certain kinds of medication, smoking, alcohol, and even too much stress. The science of Ayurveda recognises that foods can be powerful healers. So, here’s a bunch of foods to help indigestion.

6 Foods To Help Indigestion And Relieve Its Symptoms

1. Ginger

Ginger is among the most widely used Ayurvedic foods for digestion. It tackles a range of problems in the gastrointestinal tract. It’s one of the best foods that cure acid reflux. And there are tons of studies that confirm ginger’s anti-inflammatory effects in the body. Grate a small piece of ginger into a pot of water and bring it to a boil. After that, let it simmer for 3-4 minutes. Drink warm. Or, you could simply add ginger to your food. But take note of these possible side effects.

2. Fennel Seed

Fennel seed a.k.a saunf is a popular digestion-improving spice in India. It is loaded with antioxidants and fibre. It cleanses the digestive tract, eases both diarrhoea as well as constipation, soothes heartburn, reduces bloating, and takes care of flatulence. Simply grab half a handful of fennel seeds and chew them after your meals. Or, you could brew yourself a fragrant and flavourful fennel tea. Here’s the recipe.

3. Honey

Honey is a popular Ayurvedic remedy for a variety of problems including indigestion. This yummy liquid reduces inflammation, may fight ulcer-causing infections, relieves heartburn symptoms like stomach pain, and supplies your body with essential antioxidants, like vitamin C which both improves digestion and boosts immunity. Warm up a glass of water and then add a teaspoon of honey to it. Drink warm in the morning.

4. Banana

Looking for foods to help with acid reflux? Go bananas. They’re among our favourite fruits since they’re power packed and incredibly easy to carry along. Bananas help restore the acidic balance in your stomach. They ease discomfort in the abdomen. They also give you loads of fibre. And as you may know, bananas have plenty of potassium, which boosts the ability of your stomach to absorb nutrients from food.

5. Oats

Oats are most likely the healthiest breakfast option for those who need foods to help indigestion. These whole grains supply you with digestion-boosting antioxidants, reduce the acidity levels in your stomach, relieve stomach ache, improve bowel movement, and are light on your system. So eat a bowl of oats for breakfast. Go for sugar and gluten free options. And to make your meal even lighter, use water or non-dairy milk.

6. Papaya

This delicious tropical fruit is one of the best foods that help with indigestion. Papayas contain papain, an enzyme that has been found to help your body digest proteins, carbs and gluten more easily, soothe heartburn, promote smoother bowel movement, as well as cleanse your system. It’s also antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. Slice up half a papaya and eat it fresh.

In Closing…

While treating your indigestion, remember to drink plenty of warm water. In fact. to maintain good digestive health in general, start your day with a cup of warm water to “wake up” your system and have more regular bowel movements. If you indigestion is severe, it could indicate something serious like GERD or IBS. In that case, consult your doctor as soon as you can.
