  • 5 Common Misconceptions Of Yoga

There’s a lot of yoga hype around the globe these days. However, only some of it has anything to do with the true nature of this traditional practice. A majority of it all are common myths about yoga floating here and there. Therefore, now is the time to demystify misconceptions of yoga and let you understand its essence.

5 Common Misconceptions Of Yoga

Myth #1 – You’ll Have To Be Absolutely Flexible

Fact: This is one of the major yoga misconceptions that are believed by a majority of people. However, you don’t have to be all that petite, slim or flexible to be able to perform yoga. Yoga is one of the finest practices that’s not just for the fittest but also for the afflicted.

Myth #2 – Yoga Replaces All Your Fun Activities

Fact: Who said yoga cannot be fun? It has nothing to do with disrupting your peace of mind or comfort. It is surely a strict commitment; however, giving it just 10 minutes every day will also serve the purpose.

No matter whether you are in your 20s or in your 60s, you have something to benefit from yoga. It’s not a workout, it is an experience for life. It is established upon spirituality and not religion (there’s a difference). You can incorporate this practice into your daily routine.

Myth #3 – Yoga Isn’t As Good As A Gym Workout!

Fact: There isn’t any one form of a physical activity that’s better than the other. It all depends on what suits you and your body best. Depending upon your individual fitness goals, each practice improves your strength and endurance. Yoga, however, is considered to be the most efficacious workout that’s not only natural but can also be practiced at your particular pace.

Myth #4 – Yoga Is Painful (Read That As Impossible And Tricky Postures)

Fact: This is amongst the most common misconceptions of yoga. But, you must always keep in mind that yoga isn’t about touching your toes. In fact, it’s about what and how much you learn on the way down. It isn’t painful. Sure, at first, stretching your hamstrings can cause discomfort. But once you settle into the practice, yoga poses bring immense comfort and relaxation. They can be wonderfully refreshing as well as energising for the body and mind.

Yoga just requires you to pay full attention to who you are and how you can effectively cure all your tensions with this practice. And each of the yoga poses can be modified in accordance with one’s suitability along with comfort. That’s how easy it is!

Myth #5 – You’ll Lose Shape Once You Stop Practicing Yoga

Fact: Gaining weight or getting back to the same shape has nothing to do with yoga in particular. It concerns your diet, genetics, self-discipline and your involvement in physical activities in general.
