Breastfeeding in reality requires a lot of patience. It’s kind of an observational task and a special experience for most new mothers. But it can certainly take a lot of efforts to make things work. So here are some essential breastfeeding tips to make it easier for all you new mommies out there!

Best Breastfeeding Tips

1. Find Your Comfortable Breastfeeding Position

There’s a whole range of breastfeeding positions that you can try and opt for the one that suits you best. Some of them are:

  • Cradle hold – A classic position
  • Cross-cradle – For additional head support
  • Football – A position for C-section conditions or in case you have larger breast and the baby is much smaller

2. Do Not Scrub Your Nipples

It’s already a tough phase and you are still adjusting. So, please do not listen to people who ask you to rub loofah to toughen your nipples. It’s just a myth and you’ll only end up with sore nipples.

3. Naturally Improve Lactation

Usually, breast milk increases as you frequently feed the baby. However, if you are running low on supply, we have a safe 2 simple home remedies for this – try palm date or fenugreek.

Fenugreek tea can increase the flow of breast milk, and palm dates can boost the supply within 3 days. Dates are a nutritional powerhouse. So, you are loading your body with the essentials – antioxidants, minerals like magnesium, copper, and potassium along with vitamin B and C.

4. Need The Best Breastfeeding Tips? Eat Healthily!

Have around 500 calories extra to meet your daily requirements. Keep away from foods that can trouble the baby. These include honey, spicy food, cabbage or broccoli. Maintain your calcium intake so you don’t fall short. Keep snacking 5-6 almonds every day. And remember, it is your diet that also feeds the baby so keep a check on your eating habits.

5. Don’t Worry About How Much You’re Pumping

This is amongst the most common worries you may have while feeding the baby. It is especially true when your baby is hungry all the time and you may worry if the supply is sufficient. However, the amount you feed isn’t related to how much, more or less, you’ll pump. If the baby has 5-6 wet diapers every day, it’s all going smooth.

6. Watch Not The Clock, But The Baby

Don’t time the feeds as per the clock, but look out for the signs your baby gives. Some babies prefer shorter courses while the other may get satisfied in a single long feed. And night feeds are equally important to maintain milk production.

7. Treat Sore Nipples With Natural Remedies

Treat sore nipples with the right treatment. Before you hop on to trying any remedies, see if your baby is having a proper latch or not. If that isn’t the case, rub your own breast milk to benefit from its anti-infective properties. You can also gently rub some coconut oil or honey for a moisturizing effect.

8. Breastfeeding Gets Better Each Day.

Everything takes time and it’s only with time that you’ll be able to get hold of what’s appropriate. Pictures look angelic but the practice isn’t as easy! It’s a huge adjustment but once you figure out the rights, nothing will go wrong!
