Eating curd at night has been a topic of debate. People often argue about what’s the best time, but each individual has a different take! Also, another question has been asked very often – “Is curd good for health”? So, let us tell you exactly what is curd, what are the benefits of curd and what’s the best time to have it!

What Is Curd?

Curd is one staple food found in almost every Indian household. It’s a refreshing as well as a creamy probiotic. Curd is an excellent dairy product, often containing an acidic substance like vinegar or lemon juice. Therefore, it aids your digestion and curbs calcium deficiency.

Benefits Of Curd

1. It Aids Weight Loss.

Curd aids better digestion, remove excess fats and also fight cortisol. Having a bowl every day can reduce your weight as well as enhance immunity.

2. It’s A Natural Skin Enhancer.

Since curd is rich in vitamin E as well as zinc, it helps bring a glow to your skin. When taken regularly, it makes your skin shiny and soft. In fact, several homemade facial packs use curd as the main ingredient.

3. Maintains Vaginal Health.

Curd helps in maintaining the pH level of your body. Therefore, proper consumption promotes good vaginal health. You can also use it to treat certain kinds of vaginal infections.

4. Improves Bone Strength.

Since curd is a dairy product, it makes a great source of calcium as well as phosphorus. Both the minerals are effective for maintaining bone strength. Therefore, eating curd every day makes your bones healthier.

Should You Eat Curd At Night?

Now, let’s come to the important question of whether eating curd at night is a good idea.

According to Ayurveda, curd has both sweet as well as sour properties that can increase Kapha dosha in the body. It is of a hot potency and takes time to digest. Ayurveda emphasizes that Kapha is predominant at night and eating curd at night could build excess mucus in the nasal passages. Hence, curd at night must be avoided at all costs.

The best time to eat curd is in the morning. However, you can also have it for lunch to gain some added benefits.

If you still insist on eating curd at night, then there a few ways that can decrease the negative effects. Simply add a pinch of pepper powder or some sugar in curd and then consume at night. Another effective method is to add some fenugreek powder to the curd. It will also help relieve the problem of stomach pain or indigestion.
