  • 6 Impressive Camphor Uses in Ayurveda

Strong smelling, waxy and white, camphor has been traditionally used for thousands of years…as a medicine, to flavour food, for its fragrance, and even to ward off snakes! Check out these 6 impressive camphor uses in Ayurveda.

6 Impressive Camphor Uses in Ayurveda

  1. Treats Cold and Cough

Did you know that camphor is a common ingredient in cough syrups and vaporising rubs? It’s among the top Ayurvedic remedies for nasal congestion. If you’re down with a cold, simply massage some camphor essential oil on your chest. You could also pour a few drops of camphor oil in boiling water and inhale the steam. It’s instantly relieving and soothing, as your nasal tract opens up and headache begins to fade.

  1. Relieves Skin Irritation

Camphor oil for skin is quite useful. If you have rash prone skin, camphor is your friend in need – it makes for an effective remedy for itching, swelling and redness. It has strong anti-fungal and pain relieving properties, and has a cooling effect on the skin. So instead of reaching for ice cubes, simply rub some camphor oil on your skin for relief. But make sure to not overuse it since that could worsen the skin irritation.

  1. Gets Rid of Infections

This is one of the most popular camphor uses in Ayurveda. It’s excellent at fighting infections from fungi, insects, and germs. The ancients used it as an insecticide as well as an ointment for skin problems caused by insects. Moreover, you can also use camphor to treat nail fungus. To make sure that you never get infected by any fungi that build up on your body, just add a few drops of camphor oil to water and bathe with it. Instant disinfection.

  1. Boosts Better Sleep

These days, more people than ever before find it hard to fall or stay asleep. That’s because of gadget usage and highly stressful lifestyles. The good news is that camphor has proved to pacify the nervous system, relieve headaches, and bust stress. In fact, it’s even used as an anaesthetic! So, we’re talking about a pretty strong sleep inducer here. Just pour 2 drops of its oil on your pillow and you’ll drift off to la la land. If you’re ever overwhelmed with anxiety, do this and you should find yourself feeling relaxed in no time.

  1. Acts as an Aphrodisiac

Interestingly, camphor is a stimulant and sedative at the same time! It can give you some pep when you really need it. And you can certainly rely on it for a boost in sexual stamina. Since it can stimulate nerves, camphor cream increases blood flow to the genitals. It can tackle one’s inability to have an erection. If you and your partner enjoy its fragrance, you could do some aromatherapy in the bedroom with camphor.

  1. Cares for Your Hair

There are some great benefits of camphor for hair. One, the oil can prevent balding – being natural, it’s a hundred times better than over-the-counter hair products. Massage the oil onto your scalp regularly and you should see the difference in a matter of months. Coconut oil is another effective ingredient. Secondly, camphor oil diluted with water makes a superb remedy for lice. And the oil improves the texture and thickness of hair too!
