Ayurvedic Tea Guide: What’s The Best Herbal Tea For YOU?

Drinking herbal tea is an excellent way to nourish, refresh, soothe, and energise your body. There are plenty of Ayurvedic tea options for an incredibly wide range of purposes. Composed of medicinal herbs and spices, these teas help balance the elements of wind, ether, fire, water, and earth within us. Thus, they pacify our doshas. Here are the best herbal tea options for all three doshas:

1. Vata Tea – Warmth & Nourishment

If you are a Vata type, you should sip on Ayurvedic tea throughout the day. Since tea is both warming and hydrating, it is excellent for pacifying Vata. You can add milk to your tea for extra nourishment. Most sweeteners except honey and white sugar reduce Vata…so you can use plenty of sweeteners like maple syrup, jaggery, and rice syrup.

Organic tea options for Vata:

  • Turmeric tea warms the body and balances all doshas. Best prepared with milk.
  • Cinnamon tea boosts immunity, promotes calmness, and provides heat.
  • Ginger tea is highly heating and a powerful digestion booster. Also improves blood circulation.
  • Cardamon tea improves digestion and works as a weight loss remedy by boosting.
  • Lavender tea is an excellent insomnia remedy, and it also soothes the stomach.
  • Ashwagandha tea prepared with milk is a powerful Vata pacifier. It calms the nerves and rejuvenates the entire body.

2. Pitta Tea – Coolness & Balance

A cup of tea is a good opportunity for the competitive Pitta type to take a break and slow down. You should always choose organic tea over caffeinated drinks that worsen acidity – something Pittas are highly prone to. Let your tea cool down a bit before drinking it. As far as sweeteners are concerned, avoid honey and white sugar. You can add milk to your tea since it balances Pitta.

Organic tea options for Pitta:

  • Mint tea has a cooling effect and it also relieves heat headaches.
  • Ginger tea reduces acidity and heartburn, but drink it in moderation since it’s heaty.
  • Lemon tea also balances acidity, boosts immunity, and refreshes during summer heat.
  • Tulsi tea is astringent in nature, thus pacifying Pitta dosha. It calms aggression in the mind.
  • Fennel tea is cooling and calming in nature. It tackles hypertension and cleanses the body.
  • Turmeric tea reduces stress and balances all doshas. You can drink it with milk.

3. Kapha Tea – Stimulation & Cleansing

A warm cup of herbal tea made with stimulating ingredients is great for someone with Kapha aggravation. Ayurvedic tea gets rid of toxins from the body, which is highly beneficial for you since toxin buildup is a common Kapha problem. Kapha is aggravated by sweeteners, so you should avoid them. However, honey can be taken in moderation since it reduces Kapha. Milk is also not generally recommended!

Organic tea options for Kapha:

  • Ginger tea provides heat, stimulates the mind, and removes phlegm.
  • Clove tea has aphrodisiac properties, detoxifies the body, and boosts immunity.
  • Cardamom tea is a powerful remover of phlegm. It increases body heat, thus pacifying Kapha.
  • Black pepper tea stimulates the body as well as mind. It also promotes weight loss.
  • Rosemary tea reduces water retention and reduces toxins in the body.
  • Chamomile tea boosts blood pressure, fights allergies, and reduces water retention in the body.
