Have you experienced the benefits of lung exercises? If not, now is the time! Most people don’t breathe correctly – their breath is hasty, shallow, and irregular. What does this result in? We don’t receive enough ‘prana’ (life force energy). The organs don’t function at their best. Toxins don’t entirely leave the body. Even our brains cannot work properly if we don’t improve lung capacity. And our immunity isn’t as strong as it should be. But now, here’s your chance to cleanse and strengthen your precious lungs the yogic way! Do it and experience the wonderful benefits.

Lung Exercises: Powerful Yogic Techniques To Improve Breathing

Yogic techniques to improve breathing include Pranayama (breathing exercises) as well as asanas (postures).

1. Full Yogic Breath

The Full Yogic Breath Pranayama is excellent in helping you improve lung capacity. It pretty much teaches you how to breathe correctly. It involves making use of all three lung lobes in a systematic manner – this allows your entire respiratory system to be involved in a full, deep breath. You get filled up with fresh prana.

2. Alternate Nostril Breathing (Nadi Shodhana Pranayama)

Alternate Nostril Breathing is often taught in yoga for asthma. It helps one improve breathing by purifying the channels of the body. This breathing technique enables clear breathing through both nostrils, boosts lung capacity, and gets rid of toxins. It’s great for preventing infections.

3. Bellow’s Breath (Bhastrika Pranayama)

The Bellow’s Breath is immensely cleansing for the respiratory system. It quickly gets rid of impurities. It allows fresh oxygen into the lungs and the rest of the body. This technique significantly improves lung strength. Moreover, it warms and energises the entire body while refreshing the mind. Be sure to learn it under the guidance of an expert.

4. Sitting Half Spinal Twist (Arsha Matsyendrasana)

The Sitting Half Spinal Twist helps you significantly improve lung capacity. It opens and strengthens the chest, increases oxygen supply to the lungs, and promotes detoxification. Thus, it boosts respiratory health. This pose also gets rid of stress from the spine, neck, and shoulders.

5. Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana)

Often taught in yoga for lungs, the Cobra Pose gives your chest, spine, and neck a really good stretch. It opens up and releases energy blockages from all these areas. It fills your lungs up with air. Practised regularly, it can certainly improve breathing. Apart from boosting respiratory health, it also energises the body and mind.

6. Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskara)

Sun Salutations are among the best exercises to increase lung capacity. Being a cardio workout, it increases your heart rate. You breathe faster and more deeply. And so, your lungs take in more fresh oxygen and release more toxins. Excellent for lung health!

7. Fish Pose (Matsyasana)

Next up is the Fish Pose. This yoga asana is wonderful for the chest. As you curve your chest upwards, energy blockages in this area get released. You are able to breathe deeply, and your organs receive a lot of oxygen. By calming the mind, it promotes steady, deep, and full breathing.
