Most people need natural remedies for bad breath at some point of their lives. Bad breath can be rather embarrassing, and it indicates that your mouth needs some attention! There could be many reasons for bad breath. Poor hygiene, oral conditions, an unhealthy diet, smoking, and digestion problems are the most common. But no worries…apart from correcting the root cause, there are also natural remedies for bad breath that get rid of the problem fast. Herbs and foods that freshen breath have always been used in Ayurveda, with excellent results.

Natural Remedies For Bad Breath

1. Apples Have Natural Breath Freshener Qualities.

Do you know how to freshen breath without toothpaste? Eat apples! Apples contain polyphenols that can fight against foul odour generating bacteria after a meal. Therefore, they work as an excellent natural breath freshener. Of course, we do not suggest you substitute apple for toothpaste – but chewing this juicy crunchy fruit activates the salivary glands which helps in cleansing our mouth.

2. Drink Antioxidant-Packed Green Tea.

Sipping on green tea is among the bad breath cures that work very well. The catechin in green tea leaves has antibacterial properties, which naturally helps in treating bad breath. Green tea can also control the production of stinking compounds in the mouth. Drinking green tea is certainly one of the simplest natural remedies for bad breath.

3. Refresh Your Breath With Lemon.

Lemons are powerful foods that freshen breath. They do not allow the bacteria to stick to your tongue and teeth. Lemons also have antioxidant properties – they are full of vitamin C and flavonoids. What’s more, they tackle bad digestion that causes bad breath. It aids the smooth movement of our bowels by fighting foul smelling bacteria in the stomach. So, drink lemon juice or add it to your food.

4. Chew On Coriander Leaves.

How to get rid of bad breath quickly? Chew the fresh, aromatic coriander leaves. Certain strong-smelling foods like onions and garlic leave us with an unpleasantly smelly mouth. Coriander can help masks such odours. Or, you could also roast whole coriander seeds with a pinch of salt. That’s another one of the natural remedies for bad breath.

5. Try Some Aromatic Anise Seeds.

The strong aroma of anise seed, its sweet fragrant flavour, and its antibacterial properties makes this popular spice a powerful natural breath freshener. These can be soaked and boiled in water for an easy and effective mouthwash too. So always keep these ridged brownish greenish seeds handy and feel confident when in close company.

6. Fight Bacteria With Mint.

This cooling and refreshing herb fights against the foulness-causing bacteria in the mouth, encourages the flow of saliva full of oxygen, relieves heartburn, and keeps indigestion away. Mint leaves also help tackle the bad odour by cleansing your mouth and giving you a fresh and minty breath. So here is another easily available and affordable natural breath freshener.

A Few More Tips…

Besides all the above foods that freshen breath, the best way on how to get rid of bad breath permanently is to consciously watch what, how, and when you eat. Keeping our body hydrated so that our digestive system works well and keeps out bad breath is by eating fresh fruits and vegetables which give give us the required nutrients and drinking lots of water. Rinsing our mouth well after every meal is also a very good habit to keep bad breath away.
