People constantly keep raving about their love for the flavourful Indian foods, spices and herbs. The delightful tastes tantalize their taste buds and leave a long lasting impression. Apart from enhancing the enjoyment of dishes these spices also possess medicinal properties along with multiple health benefits. One such health promoting herb in Ayurveda is the “golden goddess turmeric”.

Turmeric is in the real sense considered as a naturally healing super food. In some cases, it is also regarded superior to medications.  This pungent and bitter herb has several Ayurvedic health benefits. The important ones are:

    1. It’s an Anti-Allergy Herb

Turmeric helps to extensively treat the allergic maladies. For instance, when there are severe rashes & itching on the skin or when there are seasonal allergies, turmeric comes to the rescue in soothing the affected areas.

    1. It’s an Anti-Toxic Remedy

According to the Ayurvedic writings, fumes of burning turmeric can resist the pain & toxicity caused by the bite of a poisonous creature like Scorpio. One can massage the area of bite with a mix of turmeric and sesame seed oil.

    1. It acts as a Beauty Therapy

Turmeric has the ability to efficiently heal & beautify the skin. Apply to the skin a mixture of Turmeric, Gram flour (besan) & Sandalwood powder (supplement this with a little oil or butter) and make your skin soft, glowing and blemish-free.

    1. It’s a Pain Reliever

Pain & swelling resulting from injuries or bodily deficiencies can be treated by applying warm mustard oil along with turmeric.

Turmeric is a natural possessor of wound healing properties. And it’s also advisable to drink hot turmeric milk to relieve any kind of pain.

    1. It Resists Congestion due to Cold

An excellent remedy for blocked nose is to inhale the fumes produced by burning a piece of raw turmeric.

    1. It Treats Wormicide

Consume 1 to 3 grams of turmeric powder along with warm water to cure worm infestation. For kids, half a gram turmeric mixed with jaggery works well.

    1. It’s a Female Tonic

Turmeric helps in curing a number of female disorders as it’s hot in potency & pungent in taste. The spice is quite beneficial & recommended during the postnatal & lactating period.

    1. It Enhances Digestion

A natural remedy for staying off the maladies like gas and indigestion, one can consume equal parts of turmeric powder, black salt along with warm water after each meal.
