If we have to describe mint leaves, the words that come to mind are: fresh, cool, and aromatic. Mint, or pudina as it is popularly known in India, is a herb grown in almost every part of the world. Because of the health benefits of mint, it is used widely used in products like toothpastes, soaps, breath fresheners, teas, balms, and oils. We can consume mint leaves in chutney, drinks, or even raw. In Ayurveda, it is known to pacify all three doshas…but it’s most effective in balancing Pitta. Let us look at some of the health benefits of mint leaves.

1. Fresh Mint As a Digestive

An excellent appetiser, the aroma of fresh mint arouses the salivary glands and also activates the digestive enzymes. This relaxes the muscles of the intestine and takes care of any disturbances in our tummy like inflammation, indigestion, and flatulence.

2. Mint For Respiratory Problems

The mint plant is one of the most effective herbs to cure cold, cough, and congestion as it liquifies the phlegm and nourishes the lungs. Its strong but pleasing smell reaches the brain instantly and also relieves the irritation in the throat…it therefore helps us breathe freely.

3. Mint Tea Strengthens Immunity.

Boosting immunity is among the top mint tea benefits. Pudina has antibacterial and antioxidant properties that increase our body’s resistance power. And so, it protects us from falling sick often. For our strength and stamina, it also has the  essential vitamins A and B-complex…as well as other minerals like calcium and potassium.

4. Mint Improves Skin Health.

Need a natural cure for acne-prone, dry, or itchy skin? Turn to the mint herb. Freshly extracted mint juice is antiseptic and soothing for the skin. It cures infections and keeps those annoying pimples away! It also makes for an excellent face cleanser. Not just that! Got a nasty insect bite? Go minty. The anti-inflammatory nature of mint promotes healing. No itching, no swelling!

5. Mint Relieves Pain.

Mint leaves have anti-spasmodic properties. It therefore relaxes aching muscles and relieves associated pains. Since mint is naturally soothing, balms with mint oil give us quick relief from pains, headaches, and migraines. Freshly crushed leaves help us tackle nausea. Suffering from menstrual cramps? Drink a warm cup of mint tea.

6. Fresh Mint Leaves For Oral Problems

Mint leaves are very effective in oral problems. Oral decay, plaque, halitosis, and other such problems can be taken care of just by chewing some fresh mint leaves. And it does not stop there. This is also a natural, breath freshener.

7. Mint Improves Mental Health.

Chewing mint based gum increases our levels of memory retention and mental alertness due to the stimulant qualities of mint. Its aroma can push our brain cells to perform better. A few drops of mint oil applied to your pillow at night immediately calms your mind down so you sleep peacefully.
