We all know that nuts are precious little packs of power – and they’re tasty too! Today, we will tell you about 8 wonderful benefits of walnuts. Also called ‘akhrot’, walnuts are considered wonder foods in Ayurveda.

Let’s begin with nutrition in walnuts. They contain:

    • Minerals like iron, magnesium, calcium, selenium, potassium, zinc, copper, sodium, and manganese
    • Vitamins A, C, E, K, and B complex
    • Carotenoids, Omega-3 fatty acids, and polyphenol

    Benefits of Walnuts

    1. For Mood Regulation

Eat walnuts to feel better. Akhrot’s benefits for your mood come from Omega-3 fatty acids that help avoid feeling jittery, irritated, stressed out and sad. They also contain a hormone that lets you sleep well – which is essential to experience a balance in emotions and moods. So forget popping pills, just munch on a few walnuts before you hit the bed. More on how to sleep better: Ayurvedic Tips For Better Sleep

    1. For the Brain

Walnuts are most popularly associated with being fantastic brain food. They’ve got much to strengthen it, like vitamin E, antioxidants, folate, and melatonin. So you can eat walnuts to maintain cognitive functioning and ensure that your brain stays fit, young, active and smart.

    1. For Fighting Free Radicals

There are immense walnut benefits for your health since they are filled with antioxidants. They substantially reduce free radicals in your body. This, therefore, helps prevent various illnesses, including age-related disorders and liver damage. There are several studies that have found walnuts are the most effective among all the nuts when it comes to this.

    1. For Beauty

The benefits of walnuts are for beauty too! You’ll find them in the list of ingredients of various Ayurvedic and cosmetic products for skin and hair. They make your skin soft, bright and agile, and also help reduce wrinkles. For hair, they provide much-needed lustre.

    1. For Various Illnesses

Research confirms that walnuts help in a variety of health issues, like diabetes type 2, cancer, urinary disorders, goitre, and parasitic worms. They also improve cough and common throat infections. However, consult your doctor in order to understand exactly how to use it, and whether it will work in combination with your current medication.

    1. For Metabolism

Since they carry a range of minerals including zinc, magnesium, potassium and manganese, walnuts can help your body carry out metabolic activities such as sperm generation, digestion, and growth. They are particularly effective in boosting the generation of sperm, and therefore enhance male fertility.

    1. For Body Weight

Though they are high in calories, carbs and fat, walnuts have actually proved to help you lose weight. This is beause they help you feel more satisfied and full while providing your body the right kind of nutrients. So you end up eating less. This is especially helpful for overweight diabetes patients. But remember to eat walnuts in moderation!

    1. For the Heart

Eating walnuts lowers bad cholesterol and increases good cholesterol. They have lots of Omega-3 fatty acids and other monounsaturated fatty acids, which is great for your heart. They also lower blood pressure and protect your heart from coronary diseases. The vitamin E you find in walnuts boosts cardiovascular health.

    Final Thoughts

The benefits of walnuts are numerous, but make sure that you consume them in balance! And they are best avoided if you are pregnant or lactating, since they are allergens.
