It’s no news that eating certain kinds of food can cause cholesterol to go through the roof. But in Ayurveda, food is also considered one of the best forms of medicine. There are many fruits, vegetables, nuts, and so on that can reduce cholesterol and boost cardiovascular health. So, here is how to increase good cholesterol and lower the bad kind with food.

How To Increase Good Cholesterol And Lower The Bad Kind With Food

1. Olive oil

If you’re wondering how to raise HDL significantly with a simple diet tweak, olive oil is your solution. This oil is popular for being one of the most heart-healthy oils. It contains monounsaturated fatty acids that have been found to reduce the levels of LDL or bad cholesterol. This works to increase the ratio of good to bad cholesterol in your body. So, cook with olive oil. Here are its beauty benefits.

2. Spinach

Next on the list of foods to increase HDL and reduce LDL is spinach, a power veggie. Packed with lutein, spinach helps your body effectively get rid of excess cholesterol. It can play a role in preventing coronary artery disease. Moreover, spinach is packed with iron, which boosts your hemoglobin levels and thus, your energy.

3. Avocado

Next up is avocado, one of the top sources of good cholesterol-boosting fatty acids. Avocado is a super food for heart health. This creamy fruit reduces the absorption of cholesterol from the food you eat. Research on the ability of avocados to help those with high cholesterol levels is rather promising, so far. You can easily incorporate it into salads, smoothies, and even stews. Here are some other avocado benefits.

4. Garlic

Garlic is a highly valued herb in Ayurveda. Doctors often advise taking it for a variety of health reasons. Garlic is wonderful for cardiovascular health. It reduces bad cholesterol levels as well as prevents it from collecting in the arteries. This cuts the risk for coronary artery disease. What’s more, garlic significantly boosts immunity, relaxes the blood vessels, and reduces blood pressure. Simply add a few cloves to your food.

5. Oats

Ask an Ayurvedic doctor how to lower bad cholesterol, and you will most likely be asked to eat oats for breakfast. Oatmeal contains beta-glucan, which helps your body get rid of bad cholesterol. Studies suggest that it also works quickly – people may experience a difference in just a matter of months. Oats also help you manage your weight. Just make sure that you pick sugar-free oatmeal options.

6. Nuts

Nuts are incredibly healthy. They have been found to significantly reduce bad cholesterol levels in just a matter of weeks. They make an excellent daytime snack since they boost energy and generally keep you full for longer. So, munch on nuts like almonds, walnuts, and cashew nuts. Or simply sprinkle them in your oatmeal! But watch your portions since they can lead to weight gain in excess amounts.
