Dyspnea or shortness of breath can be a sign of an underlying critical disease. The condition is usually normal, but if the intensity increases, it can lead to heart diseases or respiratory illnesses like asthma or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). These are also among the common dyspnea causes. Dyspnea on exertion (DOE) is another common condition leading to labored breathing after a heavy workout. According to Ayurveda, the breath is affected when Vata is hindered by Kapha. Therefore, dyspnea treatment in Ayurveda focuses on balancing Kapha with natural herbs.

What Are The Dyspnea Causes?

  • Being overweight
  • Smoking
  • Polluted air
  • Extreme temperatures
  • Rigorous exercise
  • Anxiety
  • Respiratory diseases
  • Anemia
  • Heart diseases
  • Allergic reactions

What Are The Dyspnea Symptoms?

  • Shortness of breath and difficulty in breathing
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • Fainting
  • Coughing
  • Wheezing
  • Neck and chest pain
  • Rapid and shallow breathing
  • Suffocation

Dyspnea Treatment

1. Treat Difficulty In Breathing With Steam.

Shortness of breath can result from inhaling pollutants or changing temperatures. Steam humidifies the environment and proves helpful. So, boil a liter of water in a pan. Take the pan off the stove when vapors start emerging. Add a few drops of eucalyptus oil and inhale the steam. Repeat once every day.

2. Ginger Cures Shortness Of Breath.

Ayurveda considers ginger as an expectorant. It releases congestion as well as obstructed air passages. It’s also an antibacterial agent to heal the dyspnea symptoms. So, boil a teaspoon of chopped ginger in two cups of water. Steep the tea for 10 minutes and drink twice every day.

3. Mint Tea Overcomes Dyspnea Symptoms.

Mint is a cooling agent that acts as a decongestant. If you face dyspnea on exertion, have a cup of mint tea every day for instant relief. Add a few mint leaves to one cup of hot water. Steep for about 10 minutes. Strain the tea and drink warm for a good dyspnea treatment.

4. Honey Is An Effective Dyspnea Treatment.

Honey is a natural decongestant. It cleanses the respiratory tract and allows better breathing. People experiencing shortness of breath must daily consume honey mixed with warm water. It’s an effective dyspnea treatment.

5. Treat Dyspnea Causes With Amla.

Indian gooseberry or amla is a citrus fruit that boosts immunity and helps with difficulty in breathing. It’s also anti-inflammatory in nature. Therefore, grind one dried amla and mix half a teaspoon of it with one teaspoon of honey. Have this twice or thrice daily to get rid of dyspnea on exertion and other dyspnea symptoms.
