Yoga For Thyroid Imbalance: Poses With Video Demonstrations

1. Bridge Pose a.k.a Setubandhasana

The Bridge Pose is a good natural cure for thyroid imbalance, since it stretches the neck and offers stimulation. So if you have an underactive thyroid, chances are that you will benefit from this asana. It supplies more oxygen to the gland, and it relaxes the nerves as well as relieves fatigue. It boosts digestion too.

2. Headstand a.k.a Sirshasana

The famous Headstand is hard to learn and achieve. But for most people, it is worth the effort. Because this asana goes a long way in improving the functioning of the all the glands in the body – including the thyroid. It energises the body as well as makes you more alert. It also increases blood flow to the pituitary gland, which benefits all other glands in turn.

3. Shoulder Stand a.k.a Sarvangasana

The Shoulder Stand is called Sarvangasana in Sanskrit. The Sanskrit name implies that this pose benefits every part of the body. Often taught in yoga for thyroid programs, the Shoulder Stand causes a lot of blood to flow to the head and has a highly stimulating effect on the thyroid and parathyroid glands. It also benefits the digestive, nervous, and respiratory systems.

4. Plough Pose a.k.a Halasana

It has a highly strengthening effect on the immune system. And if you are prone to anxiety, this pose can help calm your mind. It also eases mental and physical fatigue.

5. Fish Pose a.k.a Matsyasana

Doing the Fish Pose can help cure thyroid naturally. This asana is known as the destroyer of all illnesses. It stimulates the thyroid gland when you elongate your neck. It supplies fresh blood to the gland and therefore helps it recharge itself. Further, this asana has an immensely stress busting effect. If you tend to feel depressed, anxious or exhausted (or all of the three together), this pose can offer a great deal of help in regulating your mood and helping you feel good.
