A better nutritional intake plays an important role in the development of our brain cells. And one can do so by including the best superfoods for mental health. A good diet can improve, maintain and sustain a better functioning of your system. But, what foods are good for your brain? Here we bring to you 10 of those!

What Foods Are Good For Your Brain?

1. Oats

Since the primary energy source for your brain is glucose, oats make the best food for mental health. They provide you with an abundant glucose supply along with carbohydrates to keep your mind and body going for several hours together.

2. Walnuts

An amazing nut to get a sharper memory and boosted concentration is walnut. A handful of these bitter yet better nuts will load you with antioxidants, Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E and other multiple nutrients to enhance your cognitive abilities.

3. Flaxseed

This superfood is a powerhouse of goodness to improve your mental health. Add flaxseeds to your shakes, salads or smoothies and experience the positive effects. These are also high in Omega-3 fatty acids which help reduce the symptoms and effects of several other mental disorders.

4. Spinach

Leafy greens, especially spinach, are among the best foods to improve mental health. They cleanse your body inside out. So, not only does spinach prevent the age-related brain damage but it also helps cure insomnia, depression as well as fatigue.

5. Whole Grains

What foods are good for your brain? Whole grains! Other than oats, whole grains like wheat enhance your mental abilities and also boost the working of your short-term memory. They contain complex carbohydrates that prove to be a potential source of energy for your brain which effectively speeds up your mental performance.

6. Blueberries

Being rich in antioxidants, blueberries help improve your concentration and even delay the symptoms of diseases like Alzheimer’s. Blueberries help clear the toxic accumulation and promote autophagy (a metabolic process leading to self-digestion of cells within themselves).

7. Beets

Beetroot is a wonderful root veggie. It helps increase the circulation of blood towards your brain to supply it with more oxygen. This means you develop a better memory functioning, enhanced concentration, and sharper reasoning skills.

8. Avocado

Bringing along an array of health benefits, avocados are a popular superfood. They reduce the development of age-related damage and help strengthen your heart health.

9. Broccoli

This vegetable is enriched with Vitamin K that enhances your brain functioning to leave a healing impact. It reduces the risk of developing certain types of cancer. Broccoli contains several nutrients that inhibit age-related dementia along with macular degeneration and fortifies the blood-brain barrier that’s responsible for filtering out harmful chemicals present in the blood.

10. Tomatoes

Tomatoes help you maintain a better brain health, since they fight those free radicals that damage your brain cells over the time. The lycopene present in a tomato enhances the performance of your memory, increases the span of attention as well as improves your problem-solving skills.
