Summers arrive with full intensity and also come accompanied with problems like sun tanning and sun burns. But, when it comes to believing the rights and wrong, do not fall for whatever that does the rounds over the internet. There are several tanning myths and facts that you must be aware of. So, here you’ll know to what extent the Sun’s rays are considered safe or harmful. And that there are other Vitamin D alternatives too!

Tanning Myths And Facts

1. Tanning Myths: Skin Tan Is Safe For Kids

Tanning Facts: It’s absolutely wrong. The earlier one’s skin starts to tan, the higher are their chances of developing skin related issues and cancer (in the critical case). Plus, kids who are light skinned need more attention and care. Hence, if the kid has developed skin tan, it’s important for you to treat it with simple everyday home remedies.

2. Tanning Myths: Skin Tan Cannot Result In Skin Cancer

Tanning Facts: Outdoor tanning can eventually result in skin cancer and there are several studies to prove it. The ultraviolet rays lead to sunburns, they damage your DNA and also result in genetic disorders.

3. Tanning Myths: Sunlight Is The Only Source Of Vitamin D

Tanning Facts: No, there are many more. Once you are Vitamin D deficient, sunlight alone can do nothing! You’ll have to eat the right foods and keep yourself safe from the harsh rays of the Sun to further prevent the effects of tanning.

4. Tanning Myths: Skin Tan Does Not Show Up The Effects Of Ageing

Tanning Facts: Over time, with excessive Sun exposure, your skin cells start to degenerate. Your skin looks dehydrated, dark and damaged. The skin is also prone to develop wrinkles along with the other signs of ageing that eventually result in DNA modification.

5. Tanning Myths: Tanning Doesn’t Cause Melanoma

Tanning Facts: Tanning, particularly indoor (through tan beds), is likely to cause melanoma. Tanning can increase the chances of both melanomas as well as non-melanoma skin cancers. It becomes a hereditary skin issue. Consistent UV exposure makes the situation even worse. Plus, melanoma can increase up to 75% by the time you turn 35 if you have been experiencing suntan since teenage. However, it’s not absolutely certain to occur.
