Dietary Guidelines: Here’s A List Of Foods To Avoid Every Month

It’s an old Hindi proverb “चैते गुड़, वैसाखे तेल, जेठ के पंथ, अषाढ़े बेल। सावन साग, भादौ दही, कुवांर करेला, कार्तिक मही। अगहन जीरा, पूसै धना, माघे मिश्री, फागुन चना। जो कोई इतने परिहरै, ता घर बैद पैर नहीं धरै।” These lifestyle and dietary guidelines still hold true. However, we cannot ignore the fact that it is in every few years, one or the other theory emerges on the foods that we can eat and the foods to avoid. People also religiously follow these. But, we mustn’t forget that it’s not about what one believes but about eating and living mindfully. This saying is an absolute diet guide for you to follow to eat right and stay healthy.

What Not To Eat In Which Month?

Food is a fuel that helps you achieve optimal performance. There’s a lot of information (food recommendations) doing the rounds on the internet about the food you can eat. But, there aren’t many credible sources that detail about the Ayurvedic food recommendations on foods to avoid. Where on one side you are fueling yourself with the right foods, you also must know what not to eat to better accelerate your body. So, here are the necessary instructions.

Dietary Guidelines As Per Each Month

1. 15th March – 15th April

Do not eat new jaggery in the first month of the Hindu calendar – Chaitra.

2. 16th April – 15th May

Do not make use of new oil or eat fried foods in the month of Baisakh.

3. 16th May – 15th June

You must not go for long afternoon walks in the month of Jeth due to an outbreak of heat. Also, try sleeping for at least 6 to 8 hours.

4. 16th June – 15th July

Do not eat ripe bel in the month of Ashaad. Also, try to stay as active as you can.

5. 16th July – 15th August

Leafy greens are especially prohibited during Saavan. Using harad (Haritaki) is helpful.

6. 16th August – 15th September

Limit the consumption of curd, milk as well as buttermilk in the month of Bhaadon.

7. 16th September – 15th October

Avoid bitter foods particularly bitter gourd during Kuvar month. Nuts, however, are a healthy option to eat right.

8. 16th October – 15th November

Do not sleep on the floor in the month of Kartik. Also, avoid having bananas, cumin seeds as well as eggplant.

9. 16th November – 15th December

Restrict using coriander, cumin seeds, as well as radish in the Agahan month.

10. 16th December – 15th January

Do not eat coriander in the month of Poos since it’s of cold potency and not good for health. However, you can increase the intake of milk as per dietary guidelines.

11. 16th January – 15th February

Do not eat rock candy (misri) in the month of Magh. On the contrary, ghee and khichadi are wholesome.

12. 16th February – 14th March

As per the dietary guidelines, foods to avoid during Phagun month are grams.

 

To balance your doshas, eat right and as per your body’s constitution. Apart from this, practice a lifestyle and follow a diet that’s in accordance with a particular month or season. Following the above-mentioned lifestyle as well as food recommendations will help you easily cope with the seasonal changes.
