Sugarcane sugar, commonly known as Misri or Rock Sugar has been a paushtik dravya (wholesome substance) since ages. It’s a naturally sweet and chemical-free substance which is also added to several Ayurvedic medicines. Misri benefits the human body immensely. Since it’s the purest form of sugar, it is also considered satvik.

Rock Sugar/ Misri Benefits

Sweet taste (madhuara rasa), especially that of misri is an important one. It has Vata and Pitta pacifying qualities. However, use misri sparingly and consciously.

1. Rock Sugar Has Culinary Benefits.

Misri is a healthy substitute for white sugar. Not only does it contain a unique taste but also has universal usage. Pick the one that’s greyish in color or has a yellow tint. Misri isn’t crystal clear.

2. It’s An Energy Booster.

Whenever you feel sluggish, keep sipping misri water.  It calms your mood and provides instant energy.

3. It Eases The Ingestion Of Medicines.

For the ingestion of strong Ayurvedic medicines, misri is suggested to be taken alongside. In fact, for faster absorption of churanas (powdered herbal formulations), tablets or kaadhas (syrup), misri is a key ingredient.

4. It Boosts Fertility.

How rock sugar benefits in boosting fertility? When consumed with ghee, yogurt, honey, and milk, misri benefits both the male as well as the female reproductive system. This mixture is also known as Panchamrit. It helps increase Ojas. You can also have some powdered misri with a string of saffron mixed in warm milk before bedtime for better results.

5. It Relives Cough & Sore Throat.

Simply keep sucking a medium sized piece of candy sugar till it entirely dissolves. For additional benefits, have at night a paste of misri, black pepper, and ghee. This is a quick fix for a sore throat as well as a persistent cough.

6. It Has A Cooling Impact.

Misri benefits are cooling for the body. Being mildly Alkaline, it pacifies Vata and Pitta along with enhancing vitality.

7. It’s Great For Digestion.

Rock sugar benefits to facilitate better digestion. When taken with fennel seeds (saunf) after meals, it enhances the process immediately.

8. It Improves Your Vision.

Take some misri powder and mix it in crushed almonds, black pepper along with fennel seeds. Have it with milk before sleeping for better results. Misri benefits to prevent poor eyesight.

9. It Provides Mental Clarity.

Rock sugar is a complete tonic that alleviates mental fatigue and enhances concentration. With a glass of warm milk, have some powdered misri and walnuts to block negative thoughts.

10. It Boosts Hemoglobin Levels.

Misri benefits in the management of low hemoglobin levels. It enhances blood circulation and prevents anemia as well as fatigue.

11. It’s Helpful For Lactating Mothers.

Not only does rock sugar benefits like an antidepressant but it also naturally increases the production of breast milk in lactating mothers. Have some of it with black sesame seeds for a better impact.

12. It Freshens Up Your Breath.

Rock sugar acts as a great mouth fresher to keep away bad breath. Simply put a small piece in your mouth and keep sucking. You can also have it after every meal.
