When your cough is dry, it means that there is no phlegm or mucus present. Dry cough is usually your body’s reflex to throat irritation or an inflamed trachea. Just like wet cough, dry cough can be quite exhausting and painful too. All you want to do is snuggle back into bed, hoping for the cough to disappear the next morning. Well, before you do that, here are some ways to make sure that the cough really disappears. Try these helpful Ayurvedic Remedies for dry cough…

4 Ayurvedic Remedies for Dry Cough

1. Drink Turmeric Milk

Turmeric milk is an Ayurvedic wonder juice. Turmeric offers a whole range of benefits, one of which is help with dry cough. Heat up a glass of milk until it is lukewarm and then add a teaspoon of turmeric into it. Turmeric has antibiotic properties, and also helps your body produce sleep-friendly hormones. This is extremely beneficial since we all know how hard it is to get a good night’s sleep when we suffer from an irritated throat.

2. Combine Ginger and Honey

These two ingredients are wonderful healers of cold, and both kinds of cough – dry and wet. While ginger is antibacterial and revitalising, honey is highly soothing as well as anti-inflammatory. So both put together will create the perfect solution for dry cough. Prepare a sweet and spicy ginger-honey tea. Bring a glass of water to a boil and add pieces of peeled ginger. Strain the water, and then add a teaspoon of honey. The effects of this warm drink are immediate – in almost no time, your throat’s irritability will visibly reduce. You can sip on cups of this tea all through the day. It’s refreshing, calming and healing.

3. Chew on Tulsi (Holy Basil) Leaves

Tulsi is a revered herb in India, and is among Ayurveda’s popular ones too. It finds its way in a wide range of Ayurvedic teas, medicines and concoctions. When you suffer from dry cough, just head to the garden and pluck out a bunch of tulsi leaves. Make sure that you give them a proper rinse with water. Then, simply pop a few leaves into your mouth and chew on them. This releases a healing juice from the leaves that provides immense relief from an irritated throat. It is also quite helpful if you have a cold. You can chew on these leaves throughout the day.

4. Drink Aniseed Tea

This is another widely used ingredient in Ayurveda, which also offers help and relief for dry cough. Aniseeds have earned the name of a health-promoting ingredient since they have qualities such as antioxidant, antiseptic, tonic, digestive and more. In addition to helping with dry cough, aniseeds also provide relief for cold cough by loosening up mucus and clearing congestion. Simply mix some aniseeds in boiling water and let it cool. Your healing herbal tea for dry cough is ready!

The Closing Note

Now that you are aware of these Ayurvedic remedies for dry cough, try them out and give your body rest as well as time to heal. If the cough persists for weeks, you must consult an Ayurvedic expert to look into the matter.
