    Ashwagandha goes by a number of names like Indian Ginseng, Winter Cherry, and Withania Somnifera. This Ayurvedic herb is heavily researched and offers a bunch of incredible health benefits. Here’s a summary of its uses, dosage, and side effects.

    Ashwagandha Benefits

    • It has a pacifying effect on Vata dosha.
    • Being an adaptogenic, it boosts your ability to cope with physical as well as mental stress.
    • It can improve sleeping disorders.
    • There are significant Ashwagandha uses in depression as well as anxiety.
    • It boosts muscle strength as well as energy levels.
    • It enhances libido and treats erectile dysfunction as well as infertility.
    • This medicine can heal cough and cold.
    • It reduces inflammation.
    • It increases immunity.
    • This herb also reduces blood pressure.

    Dosage

    Doctors most often prescribe it in the form of Ashwagandha churna (churna means powder). Depending on each case, doctors advise taking up to 2 teaspoons of the powder either with water or milk. You can also find it in the form of fresh roots.

    Possible Side Effects

    • Aggravated Pitta dosha (increased heat in the body)
    • Drowsiness
    • Possible complications during pregnancy as well as lactation
    • Indigestion cases where inappropriate doses are taken
