Painful and frequent headaches are something we all have to put up with at some point – be it due to stress, dehydration, heat, noise, disease, or even a common cold. While pills may seem like a quick and easy option, more and more people are switching to natural and healthier ways of dealing with the pain. One of the ways is acupressure. Here are 5 acupressure points for headache you might want to try.

How It Works

In the system of acupuncture, your body has ‘meridian points’. These are centres through which energy travels through the body. When there are blockages in this energy, you experience pain and fall sick. By applying pressure on these points, you can open up the flow of energy (Chi) and heal the ailment.

5 Acupressure Points For Headache

1. Gates of Consciousness

Also called Feng Chi and GB20, Gates of Consciousness is located below your ears and on your neck. This point is often pressurised for severe headaches like migraines. It relieves pain as well as stiffness from the neck and the upper back. Here’s how to use this acupressure point for headache:

2. Wind Mansion

Next on the list of headache acupressure points is Wind Mansion also called GV16. You’ll find this centre at between your ears and spine – in the middle of the back. If stress, anxiety, and mental fatigue have caused your headache, chances are that applying pressure on this point will provide immense relief by releasing the stress. Here’s the demonstration:

3. Drilling Bamboo

Drilling Bamboo goes by two other names – Bright Lights and B2. It’s quite effective among the acupressure points for sinus, and for general pain that’s at the front of your skull. If you’re down with a cold, hay fever, or vertigo symptoms, learning how to press this point can help a lot. This point is located under your eyebrows at the inner corners of your eyes. Here is what you need to do:

4. Heaven’s Pillar

Next up is Heaven’s Pillar, located at the back of your neck. It’s not difficult to find its position and is hence easy to practise wherever you are. Press this point if you need relief from severe headache, neck pain and stiffness, and strained eyes. It releases accumulated stress and also helps you sleep better. If you have insomnia, you can try this point. Here’s a video demonstration:

5. Bigger Rushing

Last on the list of acupressure points for headache is on your feet. Yes, according to the system of acupressure, there are many points on your feet that are connected to other parts of your body. You’ll find a point called Bigger Rushing, Great Surge or LV 3 in the fleshy area between your big toe and the second one. It gets rid of pain from migraine, foot cramps, and exhaustion among other things. Here’s how it’s done:

Caution:

If you experience pain while doing acupressure, please stop and seek medical attention. Don’t do this if you are pregnant. This article is solely for the purpose of imparting information.
