According to Ayurveda, eye problems aren’t just a result of infections. They also happen due to doshic imbalance. Alochaka Pitta, a sub-dosha of pitta is what governs eye health. However, with increasing age, it starts to deteriorate. Ayurvedic eye treatment procedures can completely heal and strengthen your eyes.

Ayurvedic Eye Treatment

1. Akshi Tarpanam (Netra Vashti)

In akshi tarpanam, a pool of mildly warm medicated oil or cow’s ghee is retained in the eyes for a specific time period to improve overall eye health.

2. Aschotanam

To treat eye-related problems, Aschotanam or warm medicinal liquids are used as eye drops. Warm liquids balance vata, lukewarm liquids balance kapha, while cold ones help maintain pitta balance.

3. Virechanam

This cleansing therapy helps you completely get rid of the toxins, as well as brings your pitta right back on track. It not only alleviates common eye problems, but also tackles the symptoms of asthma, jaundice and skin disorders.

4. Shirodhara

This is a panchakarma treatment where a medicated liquid is poured in a continuous stream from your forehead to your eyes. It prevents the deterioration of your vision and the treatment can go on for an hour. It helps relieve anxiety, stress, migraine, insomnia, as well as a variety of mental and nervous disorders.

5. Nasyam

This Ayurvedic eye treatment works as an effective panchakarma therapy. It involves the administration or inhalation of medicated liquids through the nose. Since it’s administered to the nose, it helps cure the majority of problems relating to the entire head.

6. Snehapanam

This Ayurvedic eye treatment involves the consumption of medicated ghee (clarified butter) over a period of 7 days. Depending on your body type, the dosage as well as treatment period may vary. Snehapanam helps combat degenerative eye disorders along treating the symptoms of infertility and psychiatric disorders.

7. Anjana Vidhi

The Anjana vidhi is a healing therapy that makes your vision clear and also soothes kapha. It involves the application of a herbal ointment on the internal surface of your eyelid margin. Therefore, it strengthens your vision as well as the eye muscles.

Ways To Improve Eyesight? Follow These Habits!

  • Do not over-stress your eyes because of computer, phone or television gazing.
  • Get 6-8 hours of sleep.
  • Stay away from excessively bright lights or critically dim exposure.
  • Keep your nutritional intake at the max.

  • Splatter your face as well as eyes with cold water every morning and night to relieve eye strain.
