Water is a crucial, but often overlooked part a healthy diet. And while staying well hydrated in general is healthy, there are particularly great benefits of drinking water on an empty stomach – in the morning as well as in the course of the day. In fact, Ayurveda encourages us to make drinking water on an empty stomach a morning ritual. Here are some interesting reasons why…

The Benefits of Drinking Water on an Empty Stomach

1. It Makes You More Energetic.

If you often find yourself feeling dull and tired, your body probably just needs more water. Firstly, doing it in the morning gets rid of the heavy sleepy feeling. Second, doing it throughout the day helps your body produce more red blood cells – which in turn gives you much more energy.

2. It Improves Your Immunity.

Studies have shown that one of the benefits of drinking water on an empty stomach is an improved ability to fight off a range of infections. A glass of water in the morning ensures a much better functioning digestive system. According to Ayurveda, a healthy digestive system is key to having a good immune system. If your child is often down with cold and cough, have them drink a big glass of lukewarm water soon after getting out of bed.

3. It Heals Acne.

Do you get acne breakouts often? While there could be various reasons for this, a common one is toxin build up. Drink water in the morning as well as between meals during the day. This is extremely helpful in flushing out all the toxins in your body. In a matter of time, your body will be cleansed and so will your skin. Aside from drinking more water, you could try one of these natural acne remedies.

4. It Prevents Headaches.

This is especially important during the summer. Staying hydrated is essential for those who are prone to migraines and heat headaches. In the morning, your body is all the more dehydrated, so drinking a glass at that time is extremely helpful to make sure you’re headache-free during the day. Remember to always keep a bottle of water around you throughout the day and sip on it frequently.

5. It Helps You Shed Pounds.

If you have sluggish metabolism, water can help. In fact, it may help your body process food around 20 per cent more quickly! That’s a lot. Pour yourself a glass of lukewarm water every now and then, and you’ll be offloading more frequently than before. You won’t feel as hungry either. Plus, it rids your body off toxins as well. So drinking water on an empty stomach is one of the most healthy and natural ways to lose weight.

6. It Cleans Your Colon.

A great way to ensure smooth and regular morning bowels is to drink a big glass of water right after you wake up. This creates the urge to visit the bathroom soon, and clears out your colon properly as it pushes accumulated waste out of your body. This way, you’ll have a much healthier digestive tract. Your body will be able to absorb nutrients much better and overall, you’ll feel cleaner and lighter.

Have you decided to go from simply sipping on water when your mouth feels dry to drinking water more consciously and frequently?
