What is mustard? Mustard is a plant with yellow flowers, leaves that are used for food, and seeds that can be used for making mustard sauce. The benefits of mustard go far beyond flavouring. This spice has a host of health benefits. We all must have relished, at some point or the other, the taste of mustard sauce with our favourite dish…or the spring season view of endless fields of bright yellow mustard stretching far as the eye can see. One of the most popular spices, it finds itself in all sorts of sauces, vegetable oils, and salads. The health benefits of mustard range from providing much-needed body warmth to fighting heart disease.

Benefits Of Mustard

1. Mustard Stimulates Appetite And Digestion.

One of the most important uses of mustard is its role in stimulating digestion. Mustard seeds work well for digestion as they increase the metabolism rate. They also revive appetite and therefore work as a good Ayurvedic remedy for those who are underweight.

To improve your digestive health, mix a few mustard seeds with milk and have it around 20 minutes prior to lunch.

2. Mustard Boosts Blood Circulation.

The uses of mustard have long been made in the treatment of hair as well as skin problems. Mustard has high levels of Vitamin E. Therefore, the uses of mustard also include massage to bring increased blood flow to inflamed areas in the body. It’s a natural stress reliever when used as a massage oil.

3. Down With Cold And flu? Reach Out For Mustard.

One of the widely known mustard health benefits is its ability to defend us from cold and flu. It is known to have a great deal of heat, which makes it unbeatable for chilled feet on a winter day.

When rubbed on the chest, it can ease the symptoms of cold and flu, owing to its microbial and anti-inflammatory properties.

4. Mustard Oil Keeps Diseases At Bay.

Mustard oil has special importance as it concentrates many of mustard health benefits. It may reduce the risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease. Internally, it fights with bacterial infections in the colon, intestines, and the digestive tract. On the exterior, it keeps bacterial and fungal infections of the skin at bay.

5. Mustard Provides Many Minerals.

One of the several mustard health benefits is the presence of healthy minerals, including iron, magnesium, zinc, calcium, and phosphorous. Getting adequate amounts of these minerals is essential for the healthy functioning of many biological and biochemical processes within the body.

6. Uses Of Mustard Heart Health

Patients recovering from heart conditions especially benefit from mustard oil. The presence of Omega-3 fatty acids in mustard helps improve heart health. Studies have shown that mustard oil, as part of a regular diet, could improve heart health by lowering cholesterol and blood pressure.
