Ginger Water: One Simple Tonic, Several Health Benefits!

For most of us who are fond of lemon, cinnamon, and cucumber-infused detox drinks, ginger water is another must-try health potion. Ginger is a heating spice that increases Pitta. Having a pungent and sweet taste also makes it cool. However, its warming energy calms the Vatas and Kaphas.

How To Make Ginger Water?

Recipe 1:

Take some ginger, remove the skin, grate into a fine pulp and squeeze some lemon. Mix the two in a glass of water. Strain and drink.

Recipe 2:

Repeat the above steps but boil the water. Let it cool, strain, add some honey and then sip the water. You can either boil grated ginger or simply cut a piece of ginger root and add it to the water.

Benefits of Ginger Water

1. It’s Great For Digestion.

Since ginger is a laxative, it prevents indigestion, gas, nausea, abdominal pain and cramps, heartburn, acidity as well as morning sickness. It rekindles the digestive fire to keep your gut guilt-free.

Lemon ginger water naturally increases your resistance towards anti-inflammatory diseases. Benefits of ginger water enhance blood circulation and keep your body problem-free.

3. It Detoxifies The Body.

Vitamin C content and essential antioxidants, help detoxify the body inside out. Drinking boiled ginger water cleanses the system and reduces internal toxicity.

4. You Get Healthy Hair.

Benefits of ginger water help prevent hair fall, dandruff and thinning. Ginger conditions the scalp, enhances the blood flow and leaves hair silky smooth.

5. It’s A Muscle Relaxant.

To heal those tired muscles, boiled ginger lemon water works best. It helps deal with the daily wear and tear.

6. It’s A Natural Pain Reliever.

Having sedative and pain-relieving properties, ginger’s a health tonic for damaged tissues. From cramps, headaches to toothache and degenerated joints – ginger can cure it all.

Ginger is known to alleviate breathing difficulties. Thus, boiled ginger water clears the nasal passages to reduce Kapha-Vata colds and coughs. It also recovers the body from post asthma effects, nausea and more.

Lemon ginger water gives a kick to your energy levels. It fastens your metabolic rate which helps burn fat at a much higher rate thus cutting down those extra kilos.

Lemon ginger water lowers the risk of having diabetes. It’s a pungent root enriched with zinc to regulate the secretion of insulin.

10. It Regulates BP & Cholesterol Levels.

Due to its free radical scavenging properties, lemon ginger water with some honey reduces the activities of bad cholesterol and regulates blood pressure.

11. It Aids Weight Loss.

Lemon ginger water works well for weight loss when combined with a satvik diet and regular exercising. Together they help curb overeating and also prevent the body from absorbing any fat to keep you fit.

12. It Protects Your Skin Health.

Lemon ginger water is healing. It has an antifungal, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory as well as anti-aging impact. All these properties help reduce acne, blemishes, wrinkles, skin rashes and free radical damage.

Dosage?

If it’s boiled ginger water, have around two glasses each day. If you’re using the extracts, consume just 4 grams per day. Any which way you utilize ginger, make sure the daily intake isn’t more than 5 grams to avoid the potential side effects.
