Health awareness is increasing day by day. People are becoming conscious of their lifestyle as well as habits to prevent illnesses. But, what about eating habits? Simply eating a few fruits and veggies isn’t enough. Healthy eating habits are a part of maintaining a balanced diet alongside the daily routine. Mentioned below are a few of those habits for you to practice and improve your health:

Healthy Eating Habits

1.  Chew Well.

One of the primary and healthy eating habits is chewing the food properly. You shouldn’t simply gulp it down – it leads to the development of gastrointestinal issues. Therefore, chew your food at least 32 times and then swallow with ease. Take your time to finish the meal.

2. Avoid Cold Drinks.

Ayurveda advises against drinking cold beverages with warm meals. It basically extinguishes the digestive fire and leads to an imbalance among the doshas. Caffeinated as well as carbonated drinks aggravate acidity in the stomach.

3. Drink Water Before Your Meals.

Good eating habits not only concern hygiene but also what you choose to drink and eat. Having a glass of warm water half an hour before your meals is amongst the best food habits. Warm water aids in better digestion, but make sure you aren’t drinking right after your meals. Wait for at least 20 minutes. A sip of water is, however, not harmful.

4. Check Your Portions.

Ayurveda explains that one should have a filling breakfast, a little lesser for lunch, and the least during dinner time. It is important to take three balanced meals. Ensure that your calorie intake is in accordance with the nature of your work or daily routine. Avoid overeating along with irregular eating timings. Both of these aren’t healthy eating habits.

5. Stay Calm While Eating.

Tensions related to work and personal life hold our attention even while eating. However, Ayurveda suggests engaging all five senses while eating. Avoid watching television or multi-tasking. Also, relax for at least 15 minutes after finishing your meal.

6. Posture Matters For Right Food Habits.

If you want to adopt the mantra of eating healthy, correct your posture. It’s obvious that a fast-paced life does not allow you to sit at ease and eat. This is why, be it kids or adults, everyone holds onto a bad posture. But you must sit with your back straight and eat without any distractions.

7. Insist On Eating Fresh.

A balanced diet contains all the essential vitamins as well as minerals, which can be obtained from fresh meals. However, leftovers are devoid of the required health and nutrition. So, it is recommended to always eat fresh be it fruits or vegetables. Reheating robs off the nutritious value and refrigerated food breeds bacteria. So eat fresh and stay healthy!
