The main constitution of our body is water, but we also need to make sure we keep ourselves well hydrated at all times. Ayurveda has a very tasty and healthy way…lovely leafy greens! According to Ayurveda, eating leafy green vegetables is the best way for us to keep our nutritional health chart moving upwards. Leafy greens contain nutritious fibers and juices that help purify ‘shrotas’ (the subtle channels of our body). They also increase ‘prana’ or life energy, which gives sustenance to the mind and body.

Ayurvedic Benefits Of Eating Leafy Greens

1. They Pacify Kapha And Pitta.

Leafy greens help balance the Kapha and Pitta doshas. Kapha types benefit from their rough, bitter and dry nature. Pitta folks can also reap from their cooling, cleansing, and bitter qualities. Kale, mustard greens, collard, spinach, and cabbage are good for both these doshas.

2. They Improve Heart Health.

Leafy green vegetables like kale, lettuce, and Swiss chard are a very good choice to make a healthy meal as they have no cholesterol, and are by nature low in sodium as well as calories. They are packed with heart-healthy fibre. And they have phytonutrients that are very effective as antioxidants and in preventing chronic heart diseases – even cancer!

3. They Reduce Your Waist Line.

Most leafy green veggies are excellent for weight loss. They contain healthy carbohydrates which do not add calories, and so help you to keep your desired shape. As mentioned earlier, they contain loads of fibre and can hence improve your digestion – which further supports your weight loss efforts. Moreover, they are quite low in fat.

4. They Improve Skin Health.

Did you know that green leafy vegetables are great for your skin? They have antioxidants that cool, nourish, and cleanse the skin. Leafy green veggies like spinach have antioxidants, including beta-carotene. Beta-carotene alkaloids help repair and renew your skin. Greens also help in slowing down ageing effects. They keep the skin fresh and glowing.

5. They Improve Feritility.

That’s right, green leafy vegetables improve fertility in women. This is possible because of the high calcium and vitamin A content. They cleanse the body, boost energy levels, and support a healthy reproductive system. In fact, they are also believed to help during menopause – thanks to their cooling qualities, they can relieve hot flashes.

6. They Repair Body Tissues.

Dark leafy green vegetables contain folate, a special nutrient for DNA lutein and repair. Folate increase the hydrating and elasticity power of the skin by balancing the lipids present in it. That’s why leafy green veggies are well-known to support a healthy body that’s free from disease.
