Milk For PCOS: Is It Good? Is It Bad? Here’s The Answer!

    In Indian culture, cows are considered holy and pure. The milk they produce is equally said to be complete and nutritious. However, some concerns have emerged regarding its impacts on conditions like Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). Since it is said to increase insulin and androgen levels, health experts recommend limiting the intake. Complete elimination, however, isn’t the case. Milk and PCOS connection must be understood without any bias in order to know what really works for you.  

    Here we answer some commonly asked questions in the light of Ayurveda – Is milk good for PCOS? What is the relation between PCOS and dairy? Should women drink milk for PCOS cure? Or is milk really that bad? Let us look at the answers.

    Is Milk Good For PCOS?

    No wonder milk is great for our health – it contains essential vitamins, proteins, and an abundance of other nutrients. However, there are various factors that influence the milk and PCOS connection. So, one must note the production and storage dates of milk, the quantity, and quality consumed along with various other factors before reaching to a conclusion.

    • The Origin Of Milk Matters

    It is important to know the source of a product you wish to consume. Cows are drugged with hormones to produce extra milk. This makes the milk unsuitable especially for women with PCOS. Cows are fed chemical-rich food that also affects the quality of milk produced.

    • How Much Do You Drink?

    There are no sufficient researches to support the right quantity of milk for PCOS. However, some studies show that excess milk or dairy results in acne. Milk increases androgen levels disturbing the hormonal balance in the body.

    • Other Conditions With PCOS

    PCOS is a lifestyle disease that affects insulin in the body. Women with PCOS may suffer from diseases such as diabetes as well as thyroid. In such a situation, milk for PCOS can alter the conditions. Consult a pediatrician before for proper guidance. 

    • Is The Milk Fat-Free?

    Women with PCOS tend to gain weight. Milk contains fat, which is problematic for PCOS. Thus, it is suggested to drink fat-free milk only.

    • Does Milk Suit You?

    A lot of women are lactose intolerant. Milk causes allergy in the form of rashes on skin or diarrhea. Milk and PCOS may not go hand in hand in this scenario.

    These factors determine the answer to the question, “Is milk good for PCOS?” The milk manufactured from poor practices will definitely harm any person. It has also become rare to find pure Sattvic milk. So, how to solve the problem?

    The condition of PCOS and dairy consumption do not have negative consequences until taken with care. Cows that are hurt and injected produce milk without the Sattvic qualities. People also sell milk made from chemicals and other harmful substances. So, is milk good for PCOS? No. What do you do then? Start drinking soy milk or almond milk. Both the varieties are cruelty-free and retain all the qualities of the source.
