Oil pulling teeth is a widely used practice that’s effective for the upkeep of your oral hygiene. It makes your gums strong and teeth clean. The process eliminates both food particles as well as harmful germs. But, does oil pulling work genuinely? The method demands precision but it works. However, the oil pulling side effects can also trouble you at times. Therefore, avoid practicing it upon observing any discomforts.

Oil Pulling Side Effects

1. Oil Pulling Teeth Dries The Mouth.

The oil pulling side effects include dry mouth. Even though oils are known for their moisturizing properties, oil pulling ends up drying the mouth as well as throat. The process is supposed to remove the harmful bacteria and food particles in your mouth, but when it mixes with saliva, the mouth runs dry.

2. It Can Lead To Lipoid Pneumonia.

Among the most dangerous oil pulling side effects is lipoid pneumonia. The oil pulled becomes contaminated, and when people inhale or swallow the oil, it reaches the lungs, affecting them with lipoid pneumonia.

3. Oil Pulling Upsets The Stomach.

If you accidentally swallow the oil, it can affect your gut health. The toxins and waste reache the stomach and lead to contamination. The consequences of swallowing the oil are indigestion, stomach cramps, and nausea.

4. You Can Feel Hangover-Like Symptoms.

Does oil pulling work with coconut oil? It is the most commonly used oil, but there are coconut oil side effects too. Excess usage can result in hangover-like symptoms. Doctors suggest, the medium-chain triglycerides found in coconut oil makes you easily give up on the practice of oral healthcare because of the negative impact.

5. Oil Pulling Can Cause Jaw Discomforts.

The swishing and swirling involved in oil pulling stretch the jaw muscles. The oil has to be continuously pulled for about 10-15 minutes. This can lead to stiffness and pain in the jaw. Therefore, clench your jaw to prevent the oil pulling side effects.

6. People Experience Loss Of Taste.

Oil pulling teeth is a complicated process. People who do not practice it properly may suffer from loss of taste and sensation, which may further deplete appetite. It can gradually result in different types of mineral or vitamin deficiencies.

7. Presence Of Heavy Metals Cause Dental Diseases.

Does oil pulling work towards oral care? Oil pulling teeth is only effective when you use an organic and chemical-free oil. However, a lot of brands today have come up with oils that contain heavy metals like arsenic or mercury which are harmful to the body. Hence, the process can get dangerous over time.
