Anorexia and anorexia nervosa are two most commonly related disorders – however, these are entirely different from each other. Here, we talk about anorexia and the effective anorexia treatments that can help maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Problems in the circulatory system and the gastrointestinal tract create a reduction in taste and appetite.

What Is Anorexia?

Anorexia in Ayurveda refers to aruchi. It is different from anorexia nervosa, which is a psychological eating disorder where you might develop a phobia towards food.

Anorexia is the condition where you lose both your appetite and taste. Eventually, the lack starts to limit your well being. And it can be due to several reasons – unhealthy eating habits, sedentary lifestyle, excessive snacking, prolonged stress or indigestion.

The condition, however, is temporary and can be effectively treated with Ayurveda. The formation of toxins in your digestive tract disturbs your digestion and the sense of taste, which further turns into a critical problem. And it is this imbalance that needs to be corrected.

Anorexia Symptoms

  • Loss of taste and appetite
  • Depression
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle cramps
  • Dry skin and dull hair
  • Abnormal blood count
  • Hypotension
  • Rapid weight loss
  • Mood swings
  • Dizziness
  • Discoloration of the skin

Ayurvedic Anorexia Treatments

1. Asafoetida (Hing)

When consumed in controlled quantities, this powerful ingredient helps increase your appetite and promotes better digestion. Drink a cup of hot water mixed with hing powder every day and this will improve your condition.

2. Cardamom

Another one from the list of sure shot anorexia treatments is cardamom, a great digestive stimulant. It also helps to counter the symptoms of stress and depression. You can chew some cardamom seeds every day and feel the hunger hormones rising back up.

3. Warm Water

One of the most basic and easy anorexia treatments is cleansing your digestive system with warm water. It will cure the condition and help you eat right and eat better. Two glasses of warm water in a day will keep anorexia away!

4. Ginger Juice

In a pinch of rock salt, mix a few drops of ginger juice with lemon juice. Have this preparation 15 minutes before each of your meals or at least twice daily. Ginger as well as lemon work as magical anorexia treatments.

5. Tamarind

With this kind of disorder, one needs to trick their mind into eating so as to revive the lost appetite and taste. Therefore, lick some tamarind powder and rock salt which will titillate your taste buds and invoke interest in having food.
