Let’s face it, stained teeth can be rather off-putting. It gives the impression of bad hygiene and can also indicate health problems such as cavities and gum conditions. On the other hand, a smile with clean white teeth can do a lot to boost one’s confidence. Fortunately, it isn’t all that hard to get that sparkling white smile you desire – right in the comfort of your home! Check out these 5 Ayurvedic ingredients that can be used for natural teeth whitening at home.

Natural Teeth Whitening At Home

1. Coconut Oil

Have you ever heard of oil pulling? This ancient and efficient Ayurvedic technique of dental hygiene not only whitens teeth. But it also freshens the breath, can get rid of bacteria, lowers inflammation, boost gum health, and help prevent dental diseases like gingivitis. Many people use coconut oil. Here’s how to get white teeth naturally with oil pulling: On an empty stomach in the morning, take a tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth and swish it around in your mouth. Make pulling movements for around 15 minutes. Then, spit all the oil out.

2. Baking Soda

Baking soda is an excellent ingredient for natural teeth whitening at home. It has long been recognised for its whitening effects on teeth. It works mildly but thoroughly. It also prevents bacterial growth in the mouth, which helps keep diseases at bay. Make a paste by adding 2 teaspoons of water to 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Mix and scrub onto your teeth using your fingers or a toothbrush. Wash off after a few minutes.

3. Apple Cider Vinegar

Another highly popular ingredient for natural teeth whitening at home is apple cider vinegar. Along with whitening teeth, it cleanses the teeth and gums, fights bacteria, gets rid of foul breath, and establishes a better acidity level. But please note that ACV is not mild, so it’s not fit for daily use. The remedy is used as an occasional mouth wash. It’s quite simple; all you have to do is add 2 teaspoons of organic apple cider vinegar to ¼ cup water. Use it as a regular mouthwash and then rinse your mouth well with plain water.

4. Turmeric

Many people reading this are probably wondering whether this makes any sense, because turmeric is known to cause yellow stains. But on teeth, it works the other way! Ayurvedic experts count turmeric as one of the best teeth whitening home remedies. This herb has many super powers. It fights bacteria, lowers inflammation, and gets rid of stains in the mouth. Turmeric is great for preventing damaged gums too. Put some turmeric powder onto your fingers and just scrub it onto your teeth. Wash off with water after that. Simple.

5. Holy Basil

Last on the list of home remedies for yellow teeth is holy basil a.k.a tulsi, a herb so medicinal that people in India consider it sacred! Holy basil leaves have potent cleansing and whitening abilities. They are wonderful for making your breath smell fresher and they also fight bacteria, fungi and inflammation. Crush tulsi leaves and apply them to your teeth. You could also simply chew tulsi leaves.
