In school, we are all taught about the benefits of waking up early in the morning. But as we grow older, things change. It’s common to work or party until the morning hours. This also means waking up close to noon. Well, Ayurveda highly advises following the rhythms of Mother Nature, just like all the other creatures do. Here are the benefits of waking up early as per Ayurveda.

Benefits Of Waking Up Early In The Morning According To Ayurveda

1. Waking Up Early Increases Sattva.

In Ayurveda, there is a term for the period before sunrise, which lasts for an hour and a half. It’s called Brahma Muhurata, the hour of the Creator, during which the air is filled with positive vibrations. Sattva guna is dominant during this time, and you have the opportunity to make best use of it by connecting with the Universe through prayer, mantras, meditation, and so on.

2. It Supports Meditation Practice.

When you wake up between 4:30 and 5:30 am, you will notice that your mind is relatively empty of thoughts. There is silence, clarity, lightness, and peacefulness during this time of the morning. You’re also likely to not feel the urge of hunger. That’s why this is considered in Ayurveda and yoga as the best time to meditate.

3. You Can Benefit From Vata Energy.

The period between 2 am and 6 am is dominated by Vata dosha. Vata supports movement, flexibility, and energy. It is therefore the best time of the morning to exercise, do creative activities, and gain insights. Once you miss this and wake up after 6 am, Kapha dosha has a dulling effect on the body and mind, and such activities are not supported.

4. Early Morning Waking Boosts Productivity.

One of the widely experienced benefits of waking up early in the morning is better productivity. Because Vata dominates until 6 am, the mind is more easily stimulated and can work faster during this time. Once Kapha takes over, we tend to slow down and thus, lesser work gets done! So to be more productive, wake up before 6 am.

5. You Will Sleep Better At Night.

For those suffering from insomnia or generally unrestful sleep, the benefits of early rising include improved sleep quality. When you wake up early, your body’s sleep rhythm becomes natural, and you will feel tired at the right time. You will also have proper deep sleep. Wake up with the birds and you will sleep like a baby!

6. Lower Stress & Higher Energy

Most stress disorders these days arise from living against the rules of nature. Waking up early (and sleeping earlier as a result) brings more balance in our hormones. Your body will produce more energy-boosting hormones during the day and also higher amounts of relaxation hormones during the night. As a result, you will be a calmer and more energetic person, living in tune with nature!
