  • 5 Ways Coconut Milk Benefits Your Body
  • 1. It Improves and Protects the Heart.
  • 2. It Prevents Weight Gain.
  • 3. It Strengthens Immunity.
  • 4. It Boosts Bone Health.
  • 5. It Energises the Body.

The people of south Asia have cooked with coconut milk a long time, thanks to the rich, sweet flavour it lends. But it goes beyond taste – Ayurvedic experts ages ago discovered that coconut milk is a power drink; and modern research confirms this. It pacifies Vata and Pitta while increasing Kapha. If you find yourself unable to digest dairy or are allergic to nuts, this milk is a pretty good option for you. Because of their name, coconuts can often be mistaken for nuts, but they’re actually drupes (one seeded fruits). Here are some great ways coconut milk benefits the body.

5 Ways Coconut Milk Benefits Your Body

1. It Improves and Protects the Heart.

Coconut has been deemed unhealthy for the heart in the past since it contains saturated fat. But not all fat is bad – you need some of it to stay healthy and hearty. Research confirms that the lauric acid in coconut milk can contribute to higher levels of HDL a.k.a good cholesterol, which is important to keep heart diseases away. Moreover, the drink helps control blood pressure and prevents build up of plaque in arteries.

2. It Prevents Weight Gain.

This benefit of coconut milk might come as a surprise since it contains fair amounts of fat, sugar as well as calories. But studies suggest that it can help prevent weight gain as long as you don’t take too much. How? Coconut milk has medium-chain (read: healthier) fats that lead you to feel fuller and therefore keep you from munching later in the day. Since it has loads of fibre, coconut milk may also boost metabolism – though not everybody experiences this, so you’ll have to see if it works for you. Here are some more tips to lose weight naturally.

3. It Strengthens Immunity.

If you need an immunity boost, simply pour coconut milk in your curries and soups. This creamy drink contains vitamin C, one of the most essential nutrients to keep sickness at bay. Coconut milk  has precious and powerful substances like lauric acid and caprylic acid. They fight bacteria, viruses and fungi, as well as reduce inflammation in the body. As Ayurveda always says, go for pure, raw and organic options to make sure that you aren’t putting chemicals that could end up weakening your body.

4. It Boosts Bone Health.

Coconut milk benefits your bones since it’s got minerals like calcium and phosphorous – both of which, as you may know, are crucial for maintaining strong bones and teeth. Coconut milk also contains manganese, a commonly overlooked bone strengthening mineral. Another important substance, selenium, prevents inflammation and therefore may decrease the chances of developing arthritis. The abundant medium-chain fatty acids in coconut milk can benefit those with arthritis by reducing inflammation.

5. It Energises the Body.

Being naturally nutritious and free from additives, raw coconut milk is a much better option than energy drinks or caffeinated beverages. In the countries it’s native to, its ability to give a much-needed energy boost on a hot summer’s day is among the most well-known benefits of coconut milk. That’s because it’s got electrolytes like potassium, magnesium, calcium and sodium. After strenuous physical activity, or excess sweating in general, your body easily loses electrolytes. You can replenish them with drinks like coconut milk. It rehydrates the body quite well, and thus fights fatigue. And it is a rich source of calories. Coconut milk is thought to be great for brain power too – since it enables your body to produce alternate energy for the brain in the form of ketones.
