Afternoon naps…something many of us would love to have the luxury of. But is sleep at day good for health in the long run? Ayurveda is a holistic health care system that understands that everyone is made differently. So when it comes to the daytime zzz’s as well, Ayurvedic experts are of the view that it’s best for people with Vata dosha, while those with excess Kapha are best awake. However, they make an exception – during summer, everyone can nap. For Pitta types, napping is alright if you do significant physical work during the day. Now that you know which category you fall under, you can go ahead and learn about the benefits of some daytime shuteye.

How You can Benefit if You Sleep at Day

1. It Refreshes You.

This one’s an obvious benefit, but it’s important to note just how effective a nap can be in recharging your batteries the healthy way. Especially since most people simply reach for a cup of coffee or energy drinks when they need to feel refreshed in the middle of the day. Though caffeine works much quicker than a nap, it’s much more short lasting – your energy levels can fall just as quickly as they rose up. A 30 minute nap, on the other hand, will leave you feeling truly recharged, and you’ll stay that way for a good while.

2. It Boosts Creativity and Productivity.

There is a lot of evidence that sleep enhances creativity. In fact, in the course of history, many great minds have had major breakthroughs during sleep, soon after waking up, and somewhere in between the two states. If you work in creative fields such as design, chances are that you can immensely benefit from a bit of sleep at day. Moreover, if you’ve been staying up late recently , you can get your creative juices back up and flowing well by catching up on the lost zzz’s with daytime naps.

3. It Helps You Cope with Stress.

We’re all well aware of how grumpy we can get when we don’t get enough sleep. Plenty of research has shown that the better the quality of our sleep, the lesser our tendency to get bogged down by the day’s challenges. If you find yourself more stressed than usual, perhaps some sleep at day could increase your ability to cope with the chaos. You are quite likely to return to your work or family feeling much more calm and with enough energy to tackle the problems that come your way with confidence. You could also give desktop yoga a shot to reduce stress at your workplace.

4. It Improves Your Memory.

Have you been finding it hard to remember details of things you’d otherwise never forget? Studies have shown that just some more sleep can significantly improve your memory. Waking up from a short daytime nap, people experience a heightened state of awareness as well as an improved tendency to understand and retain information. However, make sure that you don’t sleep for too long – 20 minutes should do best. If you overdo it, there’s a good chance that it might make you duller than before.

All in all, sleep at day can elevate your moods as well as physical wellbeing since the body and mind influence each other so deeply. It’s a great way to make the rest of your day go better. Do you take daytime naps?
