  • 2. Much-needed Moisturising
  • 3. Lightening Scars

If you don’t already know about the cucumber benefits for skin, here are 5 simple ways to use this yummy food for a beauty boost. Cucumber forms a part of various Ayurvedic formulations to improve skin health. It is wonderfully soothing for those with aggravated Pitta dosha since it’s both cooling and hydrating in nature. Pitta aggravation or not, if your skin is generally dry and irritated, it’s likely to love some cucumber pampering. Here’s how it’s done…

5 Cucumber Benefits For Skin You Don’t Want To Miss

1. Soothing Your Skin

Plenty of people use cucumber for face irritation with positive result. If your skin is mildly sunburned, itchy or flaky, placing cucumber slices on your face and eyes can not only soothe the skin but also calm the mind. It’s especially effective on those hot summer days. You can either puree a cucumber and simply put it on your skin, or mix pureed cucumber with mashed ripe avocado pulp. Both pastes work well. Let it rest until dry and rinse off with water.

2. Much-needed Moisturising

Next on the list of cucumber benefits for skin is hydration. Cucumber is packed with water and hence works great to moisturise skin. It might even be better than the cream resting on your shelf right now. Make a cucumber and Aloe Vera face mask by adding 1 tablespoon of pure Aloe Vera gel to 1 pureed cucumber. Massage it well onto your skin and wash off after around 20 minutes. Aloe Vera also helps inflamed and acne affected skin.

3. Lightening Scars

Scars left behind from acne, rashes and bruises can be rather bothersome. One benefit of cucumber is that it lightens skin. So, you can easily use it to tackle scars and enjoy even toned skin. All you need to do is mash up a cucumber and add the juice of half a freshly squeezed lemon to it. Mix well and rub it onto your skin in circular motions. Wash it off after around 10 minutes. Remember, lemon can be harsh for some skin types – so if you feel any more that very mild burning, wash it off immediately.

4. Fighting Ageing

Cucumber is packed with antioxidants including vitamin C that can help reduce signs of ageing. Skin absorbs the goodness of cucumbers pretty well. You can either drink cucumber juice for skin to look younger, or apply its puree directly onto your face. This can reduce wrinkles, file lines, as well as inflammation. If your eyes are puffy or have dark circles under them, use the good ol’ beauty technique of placing cucumber slices over them.

5. Deep Cleansing

Last on the list of cucumber benefits for skin is that it can cleanse it – both from the outside and inside. Eating this food can improve digestive health, as well as hydrate and cleanse your body. This is turn can help get naturally glowing skin. If you have frequent acne breakouts, this could be a good solution. Applying cucumber topically can also get rid of built up dirt. Apply its puree as a face wash.
