Dandruff is annoyingly common – nearly all of us will have got it at least twice in our lifetime. It mostly results from a host of diet and lifestyle related factors, as well as genetics and dry, cold weather. Ayurveda for dandruff is not only safe, but also incredibly easy. Take your pick from these 9 remedies with natural ingredients you’ll find on your kitchen shelf…

Ayurveda for Dandruff

1. Massage with Warm Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a great Ayurvedic oil for dandruff – it’s immensely moisturising and seeps into the skin rather well. Before you hit the bed, heat up some coconut oil and massage your scalp in round motions. Wash off the next morning. This will not only tackle the dandruff, but also soothe your nerves and give you peaceful sleep.

2. Thyme Leaves

Thyme is a popular Ayurvedic herb with plenty of healing properties. Get hold of some dried thyme leaves. Add 4 tablespoons of them in 2 cups of water. Bring it to a boil. Once cooled, massage it to your skin. Wash it off with room temperature water after 30 minutes.

3. Lemon and Curd

Lemon is a wonderful skin care ingredient. With curd, it forms a potent Ayurvedic treatment for dandruff. Moreover, they are quite soothing for the scalp. Simply add the juice of 2 lemons to 1 bowl of curd and apply it onto your scalp. It works wonders.

4. Coconut Oil and Lemon

Just like lemon, coconut is a versatile beauty product. This one’s a super-easy and highly effective remedy. All you have to do is warm up some coconut oil and add the juice of 2 lemons to the oil. Massage it onto your scalp and wash it off after 30 minutes. In addition to curing dandruff, it will improve blood circulation, condition your hair, and moisturise the scalp.

5. Fenugreek Seed Paste

Fenugreek paste has a double effect – it’s an Ayurvedic treatment for hair fall and dandruff together. It also soothes itchiness and makes hair shine. To prepare it, soak 4-5 tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in water all night. The next morning, mash the seeds. This will form a paste. Just apply the paste onto your scalp and rinse it off with room temperature water after 45 minutes.

6. Apple Cider Vinegar and Peppermint Leaves

Being such strong remedies, both apple cider vinegar and peppermint deserve a mention on every list about Ayurveda for dandruff. Boil a cup of water for 3 minutes. Turn off the heat and then, add peppermint leaves and apple cider vinegar to it. Let the mixture rest for 2 hours. After that, strain it into a spray bottle. Spray it onto your scalp everyday. Rinse it off with lukewarm water.

7. Gooseberry and Holy Basil

Gooseberry or amla is a potent Ayurvedic ingredient for hair care. So is holy basil, known as tulsi in Ayurveda. All you need to do is crush the two into water, such that is forms a thick paste. Then, massage it onto your scalp. After 30 minutes, wash it off with room temperature water.

8. Aloe Vera Extract

Aloe Vera is among the most valued herbs on the planet, thanks to its wide range of benefits. Apply pure Aloe Vera extract (the gel) onto your scalp and wash it off with your regular shampoo the next morning. Make sure to use herbal shampoo. This will get rid of the dandruff as well as itchiness.

9. Olive Oil and Tea Tree Oil

Last on our list of Ayurveda for dandruff are these two oils that together make an anti-fungal, antioxidant-rich, moisturising potion. In a container, add 1 teaspoon of olive oil and 10 drops of tea tree oil. Massage it to your scalp and wash it off after 45 minutes with shampoo.
