When it comes to maintaining the health of our body parts, eyes don’t receive as much attention as they deserve, considering the fact that they’re subject to so much strain and pollution in modern times. The below mentioned foods for eyesight can strengthen your vision as well as prevent eye diseases and even blindness!

Foods For Eyesight

1. Sweet Potatoes

How to improve eyesight naturally? Add this delicious root veggie to your daily diet. Sweet potatoes are packed with beta carotene as well as vitamin A. In fact, just one sweet potato contains more than the recommended daily amount of vitamin A. Sweet potatoes also contain vitamin E, a vision boosting antioxidant. Sweet potatoes are also great for Vata dosha.

2. Spinach

Spinach is a great vegetarian food to improve eyesight. Popeye’s beloved leafy green is filled with two vital nutrients for healthy eyes – zeaxanthin and lutein. These two antioxidants protect the retina from damage. Enjoy spinach in salads, soups, and smoothies. Other great leafy greens for eyesight are kale, arugula and watercress. If you’re a Kapha type, enjoy plenty of spinach and leafy greens for overall health.

3. Carrot

Carrot is the most popular food for eyesight. Just like sweet potatoes, carrots are packed with both beta carotene and vitamin A. Carrots also contain lutein. This food protects from macular degeneration, cataracts, and glaucoma among other eye conditions. Here are some other benefits of carrot juice.

4. Corn

Not many people think of adding corn to their diet for weak eyesight, but this food is certainly among the best for vision. It contains the same important antioxidants as spinach – lutein and zeaxanthin. In addition to that, it’s also a good source of vitamin C which is known to boost eye health.

5. Oranges

Which fruit juice is good for eyes? Orange juice is a common answer. Oranges are packed with vitamin C. This nutrient is both a vitamin and antioxidant. It protect eye tissues, reduces oxidative stress, and also helps prevent premature ageing in the body. Moreover, a glass of orange juice is wonderfully soothing for Pitta types on hot summer days. Here are some more health benefits of orange juice worth taking note of.

6. Zucchini

Next on the list of foods for eyesight is zucchini. This cucumber relative is a great source of lutein, beta carotene as well as vitamin C. Since it’s a low glycemic food, zucchini is a much better source of vitamin C than oranges for diabetics. Zucchini reduces Pitta aggravation which can harm eyesight. It also reduces oxidative stress, and protects from eye conditions like macular degeneration and blindness.

7. Strawberries

Last on the list of foods for eyesight is strawberries. This delicious food is packed with antioxidants that fight free radical damage, protect the optic nerves, and also protect from premature ageing. So enjoy a handful of strawberries regularly to maintain healthy eyes.
